Running Man is a beloved variety show for all its entertaining games, humorous jokes, and, of course, the chemistry between the main cast members. Cast members Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook especially entertain fans with their adorable and often hilarious “love line.”
Although a “love line” is a public, scripted televised relationship seen on variety programs, fans love the chemistry between the two stars so much that they continually have to clarify that they are not in a relationship outside the show.
We really are like family. I can tell him anything, even if he doesn’t want to hear it.
-Song Ji Hyo
But even Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook enjoy their “love line,” giving fans many reasons to see what a perfect couple they would be.
Here are eight romantic moments between Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jung Kook that shippers can’t get enough of.
1. When they took photos for their “Lovestagram”
Even Running Man was swept up in the craze around Netflix‘s hit series Squid Game, creating an incredible Squid Game set for one of their episodes. Kim Jong Kook understandably couldn’t contain his excitement, wanting to take photos of himself in the iconic set.
These simple selfies made headlines after Song Ji Hyo decided to photobomb Kim Jong Kook, who seemed to enjoy her antics.
Their fellow cast members Yoo Jae Suk and Yang Se Chan immediately teased the two, suggesting they were taking photos for a “lovestagram.”
Yang Se Chan: What the, is it for their lovestagram or what?!
Yoo Jae Suk: What are you guys doing?
2. When Kim Jong Kook was all heart-eyes for Song Ji Hyo’s dancing
In another episode of Running Man, Song Ji Hyo showed off her adorable dance moves as she performed a cover of the iconic Brave Girls‘ song “Rollin.’”
Although all the cast members couldn’t get over Song Ji Hyo’s dancing…
Kim Jong Kook was especially enamored with her dancing. Which, of course, Yu Jae Suk had to point out.
Kim Jong Kook thinks it’s so cute, so cute!
-Yu Jae Suk
Song Ji Hyo took full advantage of the situation, making her dance even cuter as she moved closer to Kim Jong Kook, who couldn’t hide his smile.
3. When Song Ji Hyo pretended they’d merged bank accounts
Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook were paired up as a team for one episode of Running Man, where the different pairs were told to act out how they believe real-life couples interact. Although fans already couldn’t get enough of their dream pairing…
When the pairs had to pay their Running Man “money” at the end of the episode, Song Ji Hyo announced that she would “pay with Kim Jong Kook together.” Because of her fellow cast members’ teasing, Song Ji Hyo quickly explained that they shared money.
Oppa‘s [Kim Jong Kook] money is my money, and my money is oppa‘s money.
-Song Ji Hyo
This sort of phrase is typically used by married couples or soon-to-be-married couples joining their bank accounts, which understandably created chaos among shippers.
4. When Kim Jong Kook referenced his bed
In one Running Man episode, all members tried to clear a high jump. When it was Song Ji Hyo’s turn to practice, after having already failed once, athletic Kim Jong Kook tried his best to coach her.
To try and demonstrate how Song Ji Hyo should make the jump, Kim Jong Kook suggested that she “fall back and lay down like it’s [his] bed.”
All you need to do is fall back and lay down like it’s my bed. That’s it.
-Kim Jong Kook
Understandably the rest of the cast members started to tease Kim Jong Kook, who tried to correct his comment by saying, “I meant your own personal bed. Run and jump as if you’re about to lay in your own bed.”
Cast member Haha even joked that Kim Jong Kook should make the “bed” more comfortable for Song Ji Hyo.
To make Ji Hyo feel more at ease, can you do what you normally do for her and offer your arm as a pillow, hyung [Kim Jong Kook]?

5. When Song Ji Hyo referred to Kim Jong Kook as her “boyfriend”
Running Man cast members continually prove that they’ll always do their best to win a game, no matter the cost. One such example was when they played the popular “image game.” To try and win a round, Song Ji Hyo did her best to fluster Kim Jong Kook, yelling out, “My boyfriend two.”
Although Kim Jong Kook was initially caught off guard, he proved his determination to win the game and very reluctantly answered her call.
6. When they did the whisper challenge
During Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook’s whisper challenge, the two were given a lot of romantic keywords that kept making their fellow cast members laugh.
With Kim Jong Kook having to give clues like “Let’s get married.”
And Haha and Yu Jae Suk trying to give the scene a much more romantic feel.
Which the editors happily obliged.
7. When Kim Jong Kook didn’t let Song Ji Hyo be scared alone
In one particularly remarkable Running Man episode, the cast traveled to New Zealand to ride the infamous Nevis Swing.
Because the Nevis Swing was so terrifying, Song Ji Hyo was understandably scared, but Kim Jong Kook quickly came to her rescue, riding it with her.
They even had to ride the Nevis Swing twice since producers forgot to record them the first time, but fortunately, Song Ji Hyo was able to get through the shoot thanks to Kim Jong Kook’s kind support.
8. When they filmed their iconic scene for a music video
Song Ji Hyo, Kim Jong Kook, Yang Se Chan, Ji Suk Jin, and Haha all created a hysterical music video for one of Kim Jong Kook’s older songs, “My Heart Is Love.” Directed by Haha, Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook filmed a scene where they endearingly hugged each other.
Although the scene was already romantic, the moment was only more swoon-worthy behind the scenes, where Song Ji Hyo was talking to Kim Jong Kook about being hungry.
Song Ji Hyo: In the middle of all this, I’m so hungry oppa. Looking at all the side dishes makes me want to eat!
Kim Jong Kook: What are we going to do with you? This is serious.
Song Ji Hyo: But do you want to know something really important? I already ate two meals!
Netizens praised Kim Jong Kook for his kind way of responding to Song Ji Hyo, pleased that he didn’t resort to mocking or teasing her. And, of course, couldn’t get over how comfortable the two seemed to be in each other’s arms.
Kim Jong Kook: Wow, daebak.
Song Ji Hyo: I woke up early in the morning to eat a meal and then I also ate kimbap!
Kim Jong Kook: What is going on?
Song Ji Hyo: I think my appetite is going crazy these days.
