Behind all the glitz and glamor, idols have their fair share of troubles and concerns, the same as the rest of us. There are some that have also been revealed to suffer serious medical conditions, those that they live with even today. Here are 7 idols who suffer from a medical condition, but continue to brave it all to show themselves to us as our fave artists!

1. BTS’s V

In 2019, BTS‘s V revealed to fans that he suffers from cholinergic urticaria.

Taehyung has a skin condition called Cholinergic Urticaria. V responded to a comment on Weverse stating that he has “a cholinergic allergy” that causes him to itch. The symptoms mostly include small, raised red bumps that itch, which typically appears on the skin shortly into exercise or other activities that raise the body temperature.

As this condition has no cure, V deals with it by wearing loose clothing on stage, as well as drinking tons of water in between performances.

2. EXO’s Lay

EXO‘s Lay suffers from a condition called hemophilia.

Lay has an illness called Hemophilia, which is a medical condition in which “the ability of the blood to clot is severely reduced, causing the sufferer to bleed severely from even a slight injury.” So, if he gets a cut, he may bleed for a longer time after an injury than you would if your blood clotted normally. It may also be fatal: Some lose a lot of the blood to the point of possibly losing their lives.

The Centers for Disease Control and Preventions (CDC) defines hemophilia as:

Hemophilia is usually an inherited bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot properly. This can lead to spontaneous bleeding as well as bleeding following injuries or surgery.

3. ITZY’s Yeji

ITZY‘s Yeji has revealed that she suffers from atopy, which is a genetic tendency for the immune system to overexaggerate reactions to otherwise harmless environmental substances, or common allergens.

In a recounted story from her childhood, Yeji revealed that when she was 8 years old, her atopy combined with a common cold led to not one, but three conditions all at once- pneumonia, sepsis, and osteomyelitis (a bone infection).

4. EXID’s Solji

EXID‘s Solji was previously diagnosed with hyperthyroidism.

In 2016, Solji was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. This illness is the overproduction of a hormone by the butterfly-shaped gland in the neck (thyroid). It can accelerate your body’s metabolism, causing unintentional weight loss and a rapid or irregular heartbeat. Solji had fevers and protrusion of her eyes and was absent from scheduled award shows and events.

Fortunately, in January 2018, she underwent orbital decompression surgery and currently, she is fully recovered from my hyperthyroidism.

Her health problems were later revealed to be acute gastroenteritis, as well as fainting spells. Hyuna also recently revealed that she’s struggling with depression, panic disorder, and vasovagal syncope, which is a condition where your body overreacts to certain triggers or extreme emotional distress.

6. Red Velvet’s Joy

Weki Meki‘s Kim Doyeon revealed in 2019 that she suffers from a condition called vagus neuropathy, which is when one of the cranial nerves that connect the brain to the body can numb or weaken certain body functions. Whenever she feels the symptoms coming on, she has to sit down or else she can faint. The symptoms also get worse when she’s on a diet.

I suffer from vagus neuropathy. When I feel the symptoms arise, I have to sit down but if I have to keep standing there are times when I faint.
