K-Pop superstars BLACKPINK recorded the highest ranking of any K-Pop girl group in history to ever get on the UK official album chart. Together with the American Billboard, it is one of the world’s two largest pop charts and a commendable feat achieved by the girl group.

According to the UK official chart released on the 9th (local time), BLACKPINK’s first full-length album ‘THE ALBUM,’ released on the 2nd of October 2020, ranked second on the album chart.

Forbes, an American business magazine, said that BLACKPINK’s (UK Official Album Chart) 2nd place rank is the first-ever in history since only reaching the top 10 is the record for a K-pop girl group.

When BLACKPINK reached 40th place with ‘Kill This Love’ last year, it set the record for Asian female singers. Thus, it is clear to see that BLACKPINK broke their own record once more.

The title track ‘Lovesick Girls’ of THE ALBUM’s official singles top 100, entered 40th place, and the tracks ‘Bet You Wanna (Feat. Cardi B)’ and ‘Ice Cream’ also ranked 62nd and 80th, respectively. BLACKPINK thus completed simultaneously uploading 3 songs in the UK’s official singles chart Top 100.

With this, Black Pink’s collaborative song ‘Sour Candy’ with Lady Gaga,’ How You Like That,’ ‘Ice Cream,’ and ‘Lovesick Girls’ enjoyed the joy of being listed on the official charts of the UK for the fourth time in a row. While music fans’ attention around the world was focused on them, BLACKPINK was on MBC’s ‘Show!

‘Lovesick Girls’ recorded first place in the 40th week of 2020 (09.27 to 10.03) in the Gaon Chart download category, a domestic chartered chart, within a day and a half since the track was released. As soon as ‘THE ALBUM’ was released, it sold more than 600,000 copies (based on the Hanteo chart), setting a new record for the K-pop girl group’s all-time initial sales volume.

Black Pink released the entire album ‘THE ALBUM’ on the 2nd at midnight in the eastern US standard and 1 PM Korean time. During the Chuseok holiday, as all music broadcasts were cut off due to the formation of special programs, BLACKPINK showed its first stage this week.
