Byun Yo-han searches for his missing memory in Black Out

MBC’s upcoming mystery thriller Black Out released a new teaser, starring Byun Yo-han (Uncle Samsik) as Go Jung-woo, a man convicted of a crime of which he cannot recall. Even after spending a prison sentence for murder, Jung-woo still does not know the truth of that night or what he did.

The teaser shows two high school girls — the victims in this twisted case — and memories of their laughter mingle with scenes of them in fear. As Jung-woo gets hit by fellow inmates, their actions remind him of his own.

Fragmented snippets of Jung-woo slapping his classmate and covering something in a trunk suggest he did, in fact, kill his friends. However, Jung-woo does not remember what happened, and this blank in his timeline leaves him confused about his own innocence. Is this the whole truth, or did he forget something important?

Once released, Jung-woo sets out on a mission to recover what he lost. He returns to the crime scene in hopes of finding pieces of his missing memory. Amidst the garbage and forgotten items, Jung-woo discovers something: a student name tag.

As he checks the name, his expression wavers, and Jung-woo realizes that he did not do it. He professes his innocence, and all those years of not knowing erupt into a strangled scream. It seems something finally jogged his memory, but will it be enough to convince the rest of the world?

Also starring in the upcoming show is Go Joon (Cheat on Me If You Can) as Detective Noh Sang-cheol, Go Bo-kyul (The Heavenly Idol) as Jung-woo’s old classmate Choi Na-kyeom, and Kim Bora (Like Flowers in Sand) as medical student Ha Seol.

Adapted from the German novel Snow White Must Die, the fourteen-episode drama is directed by filmmaker Byun Young-joo (Helpless) and written by Seo Joo-yeon (Rescue Me 2). MBC’s Black Out is slated to premiere August 16 in the Friday-Saturday slot.
