Moon Sang-min, the star of Cinderella at 2AM, revealed that he drew inspiration for his kiss scene from actor Park Seo-joon’s performance in the tvN drama What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. In an interview about his role in the Coupang Play drama Cinderella at 2AM, Moon Sang-min discussed his preparation and approach.

At a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 3rd, Moon Sang-min, who plays Joo-won—a third-generation chaebol posing as a new employee and who eventually asks for a breakup in a seemingly sweet relationship—explained his character. “If I were in Joo-won’s situation, could I do that? Even when receiving a breakup notice, I’d probably try to endure it and get over it. The first part of the show focuses on that internal conflict. I aimed to convey these emotions without making them overt. I think viewers found it endearing that Joo-won, despite being hurt, remained dedicated,” he said.

Moon Sang-min described himself as a romantic like his character, though he admitted that his own romantic endeavors are less successful. “I find myself a bit clumsy in romance. I was curious about how Joo-won could be so devoted.”

Transitioning from his previous role in Wedding Impossible, Moon Sang-min took on a romantic comedy with Cinderella at 2AM. “The settings are similar, but Seo Joo-won’s character is more devoted and sorrowful, which feels a bit more subdued. He comes across as a more affectionate friend, and I tried to highlight these aspects.”

Regarding the age difference between himself and co-star Shin Hyun-bin—14 years—Moon Sang-min noted that it did not pose a major concern. “My older sister changed her hairstyle, cut her bangs, and fully embodied her character. Seeing her commitment allowed me to focus more on Joo-won and immerse myself in the role. She was very considerate and respected my ideas during practice and filming.”

Moon Sang-min also shared his efforts in preparing for the kiss scene. “I worked hard on the kiss scene, practicing at home to find the best angle. I referenced Park Seo-joon’s kiss scene from What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim as an example of a well-executed moment. I practiced while watching the video, and I think it turned out very well.”

Cinderella at 2AM is an office romantic comedy based on the webtoon of the same name. The series portrays the challenges faced by Moon Sang-min’s character, Seo Joo-won—a seemingly perfect young chaebol who is wholly focused on Shin Hyun-bin’s character, Ha Yoon-seo, an exceptionally realistic and capable woman who seeks to end their relationship.
