Dear Hyeri kdrama – Episode 8 Recap and Spoilers.

The 8th episode of the Genie TV original Dear Hyeri, which aired on the 15th, achieved viewership ratings of 4.1% in the metropolitan area and 3.5% nationwide. This marks a significant milestone, as it surpassed 4% in the metropolitan area, achieving its highest ratings in both regions. The series is being hailed as the standout romance of the fall, bolstered by enthusiastic viewer buzz and ranking first in the TV+OTT topicality rankings for the second week of October, according to Fundex. This success cements Genie TV’s streak of hits with Crash, Your Honor, and Dear Hyeri, according to Nielsen Korea.

In this episode, the reasons behind the marriage rumors concerning Hyun-oh (Lee Jin-wook) are unveiled. Loan shark Mi-ja (Choi Soo-min) reveals her dying wish for a happy family, having been diagnosed with breast cancer. Although Hyun-oh asserts that he has no intention of marrying anyone, Chorong, who lives with Mi-ja’s family, unexpectedly offers to marry him. She admits she doesn’t have feelings for him but wishes to become a true member of Mi-ja’s family. Hyun-oh rejects this proposal, but Chorong insists, wanting to fulfill Mi-ja’s wish.

Eun-ho (Shin Hae-sun) is left in shock, denying Hyun-oh’s impending marriage and confronting him in anger. Her memories of their breakup, when he refused to marry her, haunt her, leading to a broadcasting mishap during a noon news program. Later, she calls Hyun-oh in tears, recalling his words: “Marriage, Eun-ho. I won’t do that.” When Hyun-oh attempts to explain that there are no other women involved, Eun-ho retorts, “Just because that topic came up means I can’t be with you, and the woman you talked about can, right? What was I to you?” She shakes off her hand and walks away, her frustration evident as she reflects, “Hyun-oh is not against marriage; it’s because of me he didn’t marry. I’ve become such a fool.”

Joo-yeon (Kang Hoon) expresses his deep longing for Hye-ri (Shin Hae-sun). He invites Hye-yeon (Jo Hye-joo) to the udon restaurant that Hye-ri loved. There, Hye-yeon asks if Joo-yeon has any unspoken worries, to which he responds, “I think I’ll be okay. I didn’t expect to feel this way, but the more I think about it, the more I believe I will be okay. If I just wait patiently, he’ll appear again.” He adds, “When he does, if I can impress him, I think I can win his heart. My heart can only hold one person, and no matter how sick I am, that won’t change.” His words resonate like a monologue, and he tells a startled Hye-yeon, “This udon is really delicious. Thank you for introducing it. I think I might cry while eating this,” leaving her feeling melancholy.

As time passes, Eun-ho appears increasingly despondent. Reflecting on her past with Hyun-oh, she becomes dazed and arrives late for the radio program she has hosted for seven years. She faces verbal abuse from the news director (Kim Dong-gyun), who questions, “What’s so special about this idiot that Jung Hyun-oh is slipping away from the 9 o’clock news?” Following the director’s orders, Eun-ho is removed from Issue In, the program she co-hosted with Hyun-oh, and also loses her noon news slot, which Hyun-oh had given up his 9 o’clock anchor position to maintain. When Ji-on (Kang Sang-joon) tries to comfort her, she weakly responds, “It’s my fault. It’s my fault that we broke up, that people are gossiping, that I’ve lost all my programs, and that others are suffering because of me.”

Eun-ho then vanishes without a trace, capturing everyone’s attention. She writes in a shared diary, “I hate myself,” and as her desk at PPS stands empty, the narration continues, “To my Hye-ri. Hye-ri, I wanted to be happy. I wanted to be enough to fill me up. I want to be truly happy.” The final entry reads, “To Eun-ho. But you failed to even be happy. Now I’m going to take over. I, Joo Hye-ri,” leaving viewers wondering about Eun-ho’s whereabouts.

At the episode’s conclusion, Joo-yeon visits Hyun-oh, heightening curiosity about future developments. Joo-yeon introduces herself, saying, “Hello, I’m Kang Joo-yeon from Media N Seoul. Where is announcer Joo Eun-ho right now?” Hyun-oh coldly replies, “What is your relationship with announcer Joo Eun-ho that you’re asking?” The lead actor then adds, “I am dating announcer Joo Eun-ho’s other personality, Joo Hye-ri,” capturing Hyun-oh’s surprised expression and hinting at an impending love triangle.
