Doubt kdrama – Episode 2 Recap and Spoilers.
Han Seok-kyu is the embodiment of the genre itself. His passionate portrayal of a desperate father is truly compelling.
In the second episode of MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama Doubt, which aired on the 12th, Jang Tae-soo (Han Seok-kyu) discovers traces of his daughter in the murder case evidence, while Ha-bin (Chae Won-bin) destroys the evidence, defying her father’s expectations. The episode recorded a nationwide viewership rating of 4.7% and 4.3% in the metropolitan area. The moment when Tae-soo realizes that Ha-bin lied again about the murder case, despite the absence of a body, pushed the viewership rating to a peak of 5.4%, heightening the tension. (Based on Nielsen Korea)
On this day, Tae-soo is puzzled as to why Ha-bin was at the crime scene. His anxiety intensifies as clues to the case emerge one by one. CCTV footage obtained from tracking a vehicle at the crime scene shows a woman resembling Ha-bin, and her name appears on the list of cell phone numbers of individuals near the scene. Additionally, a red fiber found in the bushes becomes a crucial piece of evidence, central to the investigation.
Tae-soo grows increasingly suspicious of Ha-bin’s behavior. He questions the paper trap he placed in the door crack to check if she was sneaking in and out of her room, as well as the locked drawer. When Ha-bin arrives home, she confirms that her father has entered the room. It turns out the paper in the door crack was a ruse, and she had set a double trap using mechanical pencil lead in the hinge. The tension escalates as the father and daughter study each other’s expressions while pretending to be unaware. Then, Tae-soo spots a red key ring dangling from Ha-bin’s bag—potential evidence linked to the red fiber found at the crime scene.
Meanwhile, Tae-soo discovers that the woman on the CCTV is Song Min-ah (Han Soo-ah), a runaway girl who had an argument with Ha-bin over a stolen cell phone at the police station. As his anxiety mounts, Tae-soo asks Ha-bin if she encountered Song Min-ah and why she got into a car with her. Ha-bin claims she did so because she couldn’t believe her mother had committed suicide and that Song Min-ah was the only person she saw at the station. Watching Ha-bin sob and plead, “Just once. Can you believe what I say?” leaves Tae-soo speechless.
The episode reveals why the father and daughter struggle to trust one another and have grown apart. In the past, Ha-bin’s younger sibling died in a fall, and Tae-soo had suspected Ha-bin at that time, pressing her for answers. His wife, Ji-soo (Oh Yeon-soo), demanded a divorce, accusing him of being irrational: “You only see criminals. How can you suspect Ha-bin?” Tae-soo wants to trust Ha-bin to avoid repeating past pain, but the evidence keeps pointing to her.
Ha-bin’s lies only serve to fuel Tae-soo’s suspicions, leaving him in shock. While Song Min-ah is revealed to be a murder victim, Tae-soo learns from the runaway girl that Ha-bin stole Song Min-ah’s cell phone and called her on the day of the incident. Ha-bin’s claim that she last saw Song Min-ah at the police station was a lie. Furthermore, while Tae-soo was away, Ha-bin visited the police station to check the investigation progress and even destroyed the only piece of evidence: a red key ring.
Faced with Ha-bin, Tae-soo, unable to hold back his suspicions any longer, finally asks, “Did you kill Song Min-ah?” Ha-bin strikes back with unsettling questions: “Ha-jun, was it really an accident? Do you really believe your mother committed suicide?” The episode concludes with a close-up of Tae-soo’s anguished face and detective Oh Jung-hwan (Yoon Kyung-ho) arriving at the house, intensifying the suspense. Tae-soo’s dilemma between his duties as a police officer and his role as a father raises questions about what Ha-bin did on the day of the murder.
