Ex-mobster Uhm Tae-gu is a fool for love and Han Sun-hwa

More promos have arrived for JTBC’s upcoming My Sweet Mobster, with second lead Kwon Yul (Longing for You) joining Han Sun-hwa’s (Work Later, Drink Now 2) pink party in the new group poster, while the character teaser focuses on our charismatic-but-bumbling hero Uhm Tae-gu (Hometown).

Indeed, Seo Ji-hwan (Uhm Tae-gu) had once commanded a seedy bunch, intimidating his opponents with his steely gaze and iron fists. But as we read in the teaser’s text screens, what happens when our scary mob boss decides to turn over a new leaf, switching to the fight for good and embarking on his first journey into romance?

The answer is, well, hijinks, as we watch a flailing Ji-hwan try and try to make our heroine Go Eun-ha (Han Sun-hwa) swoon. But with no experience when it comes to women and love, Ji-hwan is in a constant state of panic around Eun-ha, turning him into an adorably awkward and fumbling mess.

The accompanying captions repeat Eun-ha’s question in voiceover, asking, “Who is the pitiful person who made it to age 36 without dating any women?” The teaser then comes to a close as our smitten Ji-hwan wears his heart on his sleeve while his unamused acquaintance remarks on Ji-hwan’s excitement.

Based on a popular webnovel by the same title in Korean, production for the rom-com has PD Kim Young-hwan (Today’s Webtoon) and PD Kim Woo-hyun (Life) co-directing with scripts by Na Kyung. JTBC’s My Sweet Mobster follows Frankly Speaking in the Wednesday-Thursday slot, premiering next month on June 12.
