Finding healing with Kim Min-jae in tvN’s Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se-poong

More promos have been released for tvN’s upcoming comedy-sageuk Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se-poong, and we get a peek at the backstory for our trio of heroes in new character posters and video teasers.
With Kim Min-jae (Dal-li and Gamjatang) as the former royal physician Yoo Se-poong, Kim Hyang-gi (Moment at Eighteen) plays a widowed gentry lady named Seo Eun-woo, while Kim Sang-kyung (Racket Boys) is the oddball teacher Kye Ji-han.
Despite their different backgrounds, the three form an unlikely but endearing little team who are striving to help people heal from matters of the heart or mind. Through their journey, they’re able to extend that help to each other as well, and find healing and growth for their own past wounds.

In the first teaser, we start with a flashback to Physician Yoo’s past. While preparing to treat a patient with acupuncture, his nerves get the better of him and he’s overwhelmed by memories of people’s judgmental voices.
One voice whispers that Yoo killed the king and that he was kicked out of the palace, while the others sneer and question his competence. Teacher Kye’s loud voice brings Yoo back to the present and Widow Seo warmly reminds him that they need to leave. Smiling in response, Yoo’s narration closes the teaser: “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se-poong. We shall meet you in August.”

Teacher Kye’s teaser starts similarly in the past. Upset and drinking alone, he tries to block out the sound of people’s voices swirling around in his head. They insult him for abandoning his own teacher and accuse him of being crazy for performing radical medical practices on his family.
With the sound of a gong, we jump back to the present where Kye happily accepts the medical fee from a patient and promises that they’ll provide the best treatment. We then close on his narration: “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se-poong. We shall meet you in August.”

Last but not least, the third teaser features our young widow Seo and starts with her flashback as well. As she sits alone in her room, her thoughts are preoccupied with the voices of people gossiping after her husband’s death, pitying and scorning her misfortunes and worth.
Seo is then shaken back to the present as Teacher Kye calls out to her and Physician Yoo asks if the medicine will be ready by today. Blowing on the flames to keep the fire going, the teaser ends on Seo’s narration: “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se-poong. We shall meet you in August.”
Co-directed by PD Park Won-gook (Special Labor Inspector Jo) and PD Kang Hee-joo, scripts were penned by Park Seul-gi, Choi Min-ho, and Lee Bom. tvN’s Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se-poong premieres next month on August 1.
