The Netflix series Gyeongseong Creature has risen to the top globally.

Kakao Entertainment, which participated in the production, announced that the combined weekly viewership (viewing time divided by the total running time of the series) of Seasons 1 and 2 of Gyeongseong Creature from September 30 to October 6 reached 4.6 million. This figure surpasses the number one spot in the Netflix Global Top 10 Series (Non-English) category during the same period.

Season 2 of Gyeongseong Creature recorded 3.7 million viewers, securing second place in the Netflix Global Top 10 Series (Non-English) category. It appeared in the top 10 lists of 30 countries, including Korea, Japan, France, Hungary, Morocco, Hong Kong, India, and Singapore. After climbing to second place with 3.1 million viewers just three days after its release on September 27, it continues to trend upward in its second week.

Season 1 of Gyeongseong Creature, released at the end of last year, also ranked ninth globally with a viewership of 900,000 during the same period. Thanks to the popularity of Season 2, Season 1 experienced an unusual reverse chart run, re-entering the Netflix Global Top 10 Series (Non-English) chart. It also ranked in the top 10 in 11 countries, including Korea, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Pakistan.

Season 2 of Gyeongseong Creature follows Ho-jae, who resembles Tae-sang in every way, and Chae-ok, who survived the spring of Gyeongseong. Together, they uncover the unfinished relationships, fate, and ill-fated connections of Gyeongseong. Set 79 years after Season 1, which took place in 1945, the romance is even more poignant, and the action sequences are more spectacular. The cast, including Park Seo-joon, Han So-hee, Soo-hyun, Lee Moo-saeng, and Bae Hyun-sung, deliver passionate performances. By relocating the setting to Seoul in 2024, the series meticulously expresses the continuity of the era, preserving the architectural structure and atmosphere of the past within modern buildings, creating an engaging experience of uncovering traces of history in Season 2.

The overarching message embedded in the narrative across both seasons is also noteworthy. Following Season 1, which depicted the tragedy wrought by human greed in Gyeongseong in 1945, Season 2 explores the present day, highlighting those who continue to threaten the world for their own benefit within an expanded worldview that spans both seasons.

In addition to Gyeongseong Creature, Kakao Entertainment plans to release various new dramas and entertainment shows in the second half of the year. On October 15, the Netflix entertainment show Comedy Revenge (produced by Kakao Entertainment) will premiere, followed by the Disney+ original series Gangnam B-side (produced by Sanai Pictures, Plus M Entertainment, and Story Rooftop) on November 6. MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama When the Phone Rings (produced by Bon Factory and Baram Pictures), based on the popular Kakao Page web novel of the same name, and Netflix’s entertainment show Zombieverse: New Blood (produced by Kakao Entertainment) are also scheduled to premiere in November.
