Actress Han So-hee’s mother, Ms. Shin, was arrested today (September 2nd) on charges related to operating an illegal gambling house, marking another troubling chapter in the family’s history.

According to reports, Ms. Shin, in her 50s, was apprehended for running 12 illicit gaming venues across Ulsan and Wonju from 2021 until the end of last month. She reportedly managed these operations under the guise of a legitimate business owner. Customers were said to have gambled on sites where Ms. Shin acted as the general manager, playing games like baccarat. Ms. Shin has a history of legal issues, including a previous fine for similar charges and past fraud convictions.

The news of Ms. Shin’s arrest has, unfortunately, drawn attention to Han So-hee, who remains innocent in this matter. It’s well known that Han So-hee has been estranged from her mother for many years. After her parents’ divorce when she was young, Han So-hee was raised by her grandmother.

Han So-hee first gained widespread fame in 2020 for her role as Yeo Da-kyung in JTBC’s “The World of the Married.” Shortly after the show’s conclusion, she faced accusations related to her mother’s alleged financial misdeeds. An online post claimed that Ms. Shin had defrauded several people, including one individual who reported a significant loss of money due to Ms. Shin’s actions. The post suggested that Ms. Shin had used Han So-hee’s name to further her schemes, though Han So-hee herself was not involved.

In response, Han So-hee publicly apologized on her blog, expressing regret for the distress caused to the victims and emphasizing that she was not directly involved in her mother’s fraudulent activities. Her friends and acquaintances also spoke out, urging the public not to blame Han So-hee for her mother’s actions and offering their support.

The situation resurfaced in 2023 when a YouTuber reported that Ms. Shin was being sued for 85 million won. Han So-hee’s agency clarified that Ms. Shin had used Han So-hee’s bank account without her knowledge when she was a minor. The agency confirmed that the actress had no involvement in her mother’s fraudulent activities, and the court ruled that these matters were unrelated to Han So-hee.

Han So-hee has continued to distance herself from her mother’s actions and has vowed to prevent any exploitation of her celebrity status for financial gain. Despite her efforts to distance herself from these issues, ongoing gossip about her mother has added to the public scrutiny Han So-hee faces.

Looking ahead, Han So-hee is set to return to the screen with the second season of Netflix’s original series “Gyeongseong Creature,” scheduled for release on the 27th.
