Heodang husband Kim Byung-chul in Doctor Cha Jung-sook

A new teaser has dropped for JTBC’s Doctor Cha Jung-sook, this time focusing on husband Kim Byung-chul (All of Us Are Dead), and I was pleasantly surprised to see that he isn’t as menacing – or as graceful (hehe) – as I expected from initial character descriptions.

The title role of Cha Jung-sook is taken on by Uhm Jung-hwa (Our Blues), who spent the last 20 years putting her family first, even if meant pushing her doctor dreams aside. But now she’s decided that enough is enough and she’s resolute about restarting her career, undeterred by the uphill climb ahead of her.

But this decision puts Dr. Seo In-ho (Kim Byung-chul) in a tricky situation, having lived a double life in secret from his wife. As a perfectionist, he takes pride in his dignity and composure, but he risks having his real face exposed now that Jung-sook will be working at the hospital as well.

The new teaser begins with In-ho resting in his office before making his rounds at the hospital. As he prepares for surgery and leads a discussion, he explains, “Giving your best is just the expected standard. The outcome has to be good.” A poised Park Joon-geum (Be My Dream Family) brags that her son’s career will progress beyond a medical professor. But, in the same breath, she immediately turns to screech at In-ho, when he tries to tell her to stop.

In the next sequence, we then see the stark contrast between In-ho’s actual behavior and what he professes, telling others, “Being a professional also means maintaining a polished appearance.” We then watch as In-ho tries to keep a straight face, while muttering under his breath that this is a waste of his time. He vents his frustrations on the rooftop in private and the teaser closes as In-ho tries to compose himself.

With scripts by Jung Yeo-rang (Five Enough) and directing helmed by PD Kim Dae-jin (King of Pigs) and PD Kim Jung-wook, JTBC’s Doctor Cha Jung-sook premieres on April 15, following Divorce Attorney Shin in the weekend slot.
