There’s an unspoken rule in high school that fists speak louder than words. So with the cast confirmed for TVING’s upcoming drama Study Group — an adaptation of the webtoon of the same name — Hwang Min-hyun (My Lovely Liar), Han Ji-eun (Stock Struck), and the rest of the cast will have to figure out how to stick up for the little guy in the midst of their violent school politics.

Min-hyun plays the role of high schooler Yoon Ga-min. He may have the tidy looks of a straight-A student, but, unfortunately for him, the same can’t be said for his bad grades. While the only thing he’s actually good at is fighting, that hasn’t discouraged him from glueing himself to his textbook in hopes of getting into college. It’s only when a friend from his study group starts getting bullied that Ga-min uses his fight skills to stand up against the bad actors in his school.

Watching over him is his teacher Lee Han-kyung (Han Ji-eun) who, mysteriously, despite receiving top scores on her teacher’s certification exam, accepted a temp position at Ga-min’s podunk high school. She used to tutor Ga-min back when she was a university student, so she’s already well-acquainted with his dreams and antics. However, now that she’s meeting him in a different setting, they’ll have to adapt their teacher-student dynamic to match the anarchy that is high school.

Han-kyung and Ga-min will have their work cut out for them, especially when it comes to dealing with toxic bullies like Pi Han-wool, played by Cha Woo-min (Weak Hero Class 1). He’s not just the top student of the school: he’s the son of a notorious gangster, which has kept him untouchable by the student body. But now that Ga-min has risen up to challenge him, we’ll have to see how the pecking order shakes out for both of them.

Thankfully for Ga-min, he has his study group pals on his side. The group includes members such as the number two student and inaugural study group member Kim Se-hyun (played by rookie Lee Jong-hyun); best friends Lee Ji-woo and Choi Hee-won — played by Shin Soo-hyun (Duty After School) and Yoon Sang-jung (A Time Called You) respectively; and self-prescribed vice-leader of the study group Lee Joon (played by rookie Gong Do-yu). When the going gets tough, they’ll be the ones to pick our hero up, dust off his shoulders, and support him on the battlefield.

With the screenplay adapted by Eom Sun-ho and directed by Lee Jang-hoon (Miracle: Letters to the President), Study Group will air sometime in 2024.
