The movie Harbin has announced its release for December and has unveiled its first poster and trailer.
Harbin is a spy drama set in 1909, exploring the intense pursuit and intrigue between those journeying to Harbin with a singular mission and those determined to catch them. Directed by Woo Min-ho, known for his stylish direction and historical depth in films like The Man Standing Next and Inside Men, the movie is produced by Hive Media Corp, the same team behind Spring in Seoul and Deliver Us From Evil.
The newly released poster and trailer offer a first look at Hyun Bin’s portrayal of Ahn Jung-geun, a key figure in the Korean independence movement. The poster reveals a fresh and unexpected side of Hyun Bin, while the trailer features a powerful monologue by Ahn Jung-geun, written by director Woo Min-ho. The monologue includes lines such as, “I gave up everything and tried to die. The miserable screams of my dead comrades rang in my ears and before my eyes. At that moment, I realized. I was living in place of the lives of my dead comrades. And I knew what I had to do. I had to kill and eliminate the old wolf, the leader of the Japanese wolves that were trampling on the Korean Empire.” The one-minute trailer, narrated in Hyun Bin’s deep, resonant voice, vividly conveys the tragic struggle and thrilling journey of the independence fighters, heightening anticipation for its big-screen debut.
Harbin will first premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before its domestic release. Hyun Bin, Lee Dong-wook, and director Woo Min-ho are scheduled to attend the world premiere at Roy Thomson Hall on the evening of September 8 (local time), where they will engage with global film enthusiasts. Set against the backdrop of the Japanese colonial period in Korea, Harbin‘s selection for one of the world’s top four film festivals is generating significant buzz.
