Netflix announced on the 2nd that the production of the film Samagwit has been officially confirmed. This upcoming film is a spin-off set in the same universe as the popular Netflix film Gil Bok-soon, exploring the high-stakes world of contract killers.
Samagwit centers on A-class assassin Samagwit, a character previously mentioned in Gil Bok-soon when CEO Cha Min-gyu (played by Seol Kyung-gu) described him as having “gone on vacation.” The film will delve into the chaotic and lawless realm of contract killing as Samagwit returns to the scene.
Im Si-wan stars as Han-ul, known as ‘Mantis,’ who re-enters the cutthroat world of contract killing and vies for dominance against his trainee and rival Jae-i (played by Park Gyu-young), and the retired legendary assassin Dokgo (played by Jo Woo-jin).
While Gil Bok-soon focused on the inner conflict of Gil Bok-soon, who juggles her roles as a single mother and a killer, Samagwit will spotlight the intense actions and ambitions of its three central characters—Samagwit, Jae-i, and Dokgo—as they pursue their own objectives.
The film is directed by Lee Tae-seong, making his directorial debut after working as an assistant director on Gil Bok-soon and The King. Byun Sung-hyun, the director of Gil Bok-soon, has contributed directly to the screenplay, ensuring continuity in the film’s thematic elements.
