Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung star in SBS‘s new Korean drama Backstreet Rookie. The drama is based on a popular webtoon by the same title. It’s marketed as a romantic comedy about a convenience store owner and a part-time employee.
Ji Chang Wook plays the role of Choi Dae Myung, a realistically upright person who sometimes has a “weak resolve”.
Starring along with him is Kim Yoo Jung whose character’s name is Jung Saet Byul. As someone who loves to physically help the people around her, Saet Byul is a warm and lovable person.
On its first ever broadcast, Backstreet Rookie was able to get average nationwide ratings of 4.8% and 6.3 % for its two parts.

The ratings seem to have potential, considering that its predecessor, The King: Eternal Monarch‘s finale was able to achieve average nationwide ratings of 5.8% and 8.1% for its two parts.
Fans are excited to watch the show, since it will show different parts of Ji Chang Wook that they haven’t seen yet.

While Korean viewers gave criticism to the show, there’s no denying the fact that Backstreet Rookie became a trending topic when it premiered on June 19.
