It’s A Good Day to Be a Dog for Park Kyu-young

Are you a dog person or a cat person? MBC’s upcoming fantasy romance A Good Day to Be a Dog centers around a heroine who is quite literally the former — due to an ancestral curse passed down through her bloodline. Adapted from the webtoon of the same name, the drama will follow Park Kyu-young (Celebrity) as she endeavors to free herself from the curse’s binds.
All her life, Han Hae-na (Park Kyu-young) has avoided locking lips with anyone. While this certainly hasn’t done her any favors in the romance department, it’s protected her from an unwelcome transmutation. Owing to a forebear’s folly, generations upon generations of the Han family have been magically afflicted with an unfortunate syndrome. Upon being kissed, they will turn into a dog at the stroke of midnight. Thankfully, the transformation is temporary — since the curse’s effects wear off after six hours — but it’s still a frustratingly inconvenient affair.
As such, Hae-na would much rather take precautions to retain her human form. That is, until a drunken escapade leads to her locking lips with Jin Seo-won, played by Cha Eun-woo (Island). The curse activates, and Hae-na finds herself having to spend every night as a dog, much to her distress. There’s only one cure — she must kiss Seo-won again in her canine form! And as luck would have it, he’s in close proximity, since he’s a fellow teacher at the same high school.
Unfortunately, Hae-na may be barking up the wrong tree — Seo-won is downright terrified of dogs. After a traumatic childhood experience turned him away from canines forevermore, he can’t bear to be near a dog, let alone come into contact with one. How could he possibly kiss a dog? Will Hae-na be able to lift her curse? And how did the curse even manifest in the first place?
We may have a hint to that last question, since Lee Hyun-woo (Money Heist: Korea — Joint Economic Area) rounds out our main cast as the mountain spirit Lee Bo-gyeom. With an amiable smile that belies his true nature, it seems he may be the origin of our heroine’s predicament — or perhaps, he may have the answers she seeks.
Helmed by PD Kim Dae-woong (Start Up The Engine) with scripts written by Baek In-ah, A Good Day to Be a Dog premieres next month on October 11.
