ITZY Ryujin Speaks Out on Why Members Have to be Thin

ITZY’s Ryujin shared her thoughts about why the members of her girl group have to stay skinny.

K-pop idols are normally thin and they follow a strict standard on maintain their physique. As Ryujin of the South Korean girl group ITZY talks about the struggles of keeping up with her figure, she also noted reasons why members have to be thin. As an idol, the ITZY girl gave a practical answer to such stigma on their comeback’s live premier broadcast.

Ryujin said that part of the consideration an idol should follow is to maintain beauty. Thus, part of their success is to strive hard for achieving good looks and low body weight. “Our works necessitate us to endeavor for aesthetic beauty and to stay thin,” she said.

As K-pop idols are lauded for their visuals, having a great skill set to show off fans, whether in dancing or singing, Ryujin believes that being thin is connected to achieving high-caliber performances. She pointed out that having slim figures contribute to eye-catching choreography.

“It’s not like ‘idol stars have to be thin’ just because. It’s about the performance. Being on the thinner side will make the dancing better to look at, and you can wear a broader spectrum of costumes,” she explained.

ITZY’s Ways of Eating

Although K-pop idols are struggling to maintain a thin figure, ITZY girls have been known for their varied eating habits. For instance, Yeji said that she preferred frequent snacking, Lia is on slow and steady eating, Charyeong is into foods like corn, chestnuts and sweet potatoes, Yuna is eating a great mixture of protein, carbs and sweet treats. Thus, the girls’ breathtaking dance choreographies would lead to burning fats and calories.

Meanwhile, ITZY successfully made their comeback today with their upcoming album, “Not Shy.” Prior to the release of the official music video, JYP Entertainment teased fans with their MV trailer which showcased the girls’ impressive dancing skills and performances with behind-the-scene cuts of the track. As of press time, ITZY’s latest comeback video is currently viewed by over 4.1 million viewers 4 hours after its launching.

As the girl group’s popularity has consistently risen since their debut, ITZY is garnering recognitions for their names such as the recently concluded Soribada Music Awards 2020 where the girls received their daesang “ARTIST AWARD” alongside boy band TXT.
