IU and Park Bo-gum cast in 1950s romance

The writer of When the Camellia Blooms and Fight My Way? The director of Signal and Misaeng? Not to mention IU (Hotel Del Luna) and Park Bo-gum (Record of Youth)? Now that’s certainly an exciting lineup!

Upcoming romance drama You Have Done Well (working title) may not have much information to its name yet, but my interest has already been piqued. Set in the 1950s, the slice-of-life drama centers around our two lovebirds, following their adventures through the seasons of Jeju Island.

IU stars as Ae-soon, a vivacious girl who wears her heart on her sleeve, never letting her less-than-ideal circumstances dampen her spirit. Even though she can’t attend school, she dreams of becoming a poet. Ae-soon may have a bit of a rebellious streak to her, but she’s more timid than one might think — her voice can’t help but quiver every time she tries to rebel, aww.

Opposite her, we have Park Bo-gum as Gwan-shik, who’s diligent and conscientious. Except his composure all but melts away in the face of Ae-soon — he’s absolutely head over heels, and he only has eyes for her. Earnest and sincere, Gwan-shik is Ae-soon’s most faithful supporter, staying by her side through thick and thin.

Although the drama doesn’t have a confirmed broadcaster yet, I’m already eagerly anticipating more news about it, especially with regards to the supporting cast. From the looks of it, the drama is shaping up to be a heartwarming, feel-good tale that’s grounded in the peaceful mundanity of everyday life — and given the writer’s previous works, I’m inclined to trust that we’re in good hands.

This drama also marks a reunion between IU and PD Kim Won-seok (Arthdal Chronicles), who previously worked together on My Ajusshi. Written by Im Sang-chun (When the Camellia Blooms), You Have Done Well will commence production in the second quarter of this year.
