In episode 7 of MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “Black Out”, Byun Yo-han’s character, Go Jeong-woo, uncovered unsettling truths about his friends Lee Tae-goo and Lee Woo-jae.
The episode, which aired on the 6th, revealed false testimonies from Go Jeong-woo’s hometown friends, Yang Byung-moo (played by Lee Tae-goo) and Shin Min-soo (played by Lee Woo-jae). DNA from Yang Byung-moo was found on the victim Sim Bo-young’s (played by Jang Ha-eun) underwear, causing widespread panic.
The viewership ratings for this episode hit 5.7% in both the metropolitan area and nationwide, with the peak rating reaching 6.8%. This marks a new high for the show, continuing its upward trend for four consecutive weeks (Nielsen Korea standard).
After receiving Sim Bo-young’s bag and cell phone from Hyun Gun-oh (played by Lee Ga-seop), who had just returned from studying abroad, Go Jeong-woo eagerly searched for clues. However, under the orders of Hyun Gun-oh’s father, Hyun Gu-tak (played by Kwon Hae-hyo), the villagers attacked Go Jeong-woo, and Sim Bo-young’s bag was taken. Despite barely keeping hold of the cell phone, Go Jeong-woo was devastated to find footage of his friends, Yang Byung-moo and Shin Min-soo, with Sim Bo-young on the night of the incident, directly contradicting their earlier claims.
The discovery of Sim Bo-young’s missing underwear in an English book, secretly taken by Hyun Gun-oh, further propelled Go Jeong-woo and Noh Sang-chul’s investigation. Noh Sang-chul requested DNA tests from Go Jeong-woo, Hyun Gun-oh, Yang Byung-moo, and Shin Min-soo. The results were shocking: Yang Byung-moo’s DNA matched the DNA found on Sim Bo-young’s underwear.
As Go Jeong-woo and Noh Sang-chul’s investigation gained momentum, the villagers’ attempts to cover up the incident intensified, heightening tension. Particularly shocking was Police Chief Hyun Gu-tak’s twisted paternal love, as he covered up the incident to protect his son, Hyun Gun-oh, who was present at the scene, and even imprisoned him.
While Hyun Gu-tak was away, Go Jeong-woo, accompanied by Ha-seol (played by Kim Bo-ra), confronted Hyun Gun-oh about the events of that fateful night in the warehouse. Hyun Gun-oh finally revealed that Yang Byung-moo and Shin Min-soo were involved. This revelation led Go Jeong-woo to the emergency room where Shin Min-soo worked, armed with a hammer and driven by rage. Confronting Shin Min-soo, Go Jeong-woo accused him of killing Bo-young, intensifying the drama. Shin Min-soo, who had been denying his involvement, lost control and blamed Go Jeong-woo, saying, “It’s all because of you,” which infuriated viewers.
Simultaneously, Noh Sang-chul, who was analyzing the DNA results, was attacked by Yang Byung-moo, further escalating the crisis. As the true nature of the villagers and friends involved in the murder case 11 years ago starts to emerge, the focus shifts to whether Go Jeong-woo and Noh Sang-chul can uncover the complete truth.
The next episode of “Black Out” will continue the intense quest for truth and air tonight (the 7th) at 9:50 PM.
