Jumping out at us from under the woodwork, Disney+ announced that The Worst of Evil will soon be coming to our screens, kicking off promos with the piercing glares of Ji Chang-wook (If You Wish Upon Me) and Wie Ha-joon (Little Women) in the crime-action’s first posters.
Against the backdrop of ye olde 1990, the story takes us into the gritty underbelly of the Gangnam region in Seoul, where an underground black market of drug trafficking has been steadily expanding between South Korea, China, and Japan.
To gain valuable intel and take down the organizations from within, our hero and police officer Park Joon-mo (Ji Chang-wook) is sent undercover to act as a gang member and infiltrate the mob. It is here that Joon-mo meets the charismatic Jung Ki-chul (Wie Ha-joon), the emerging mob group’s boss who prizes loyalty and brotherhood.
Although not yet featured, the series also stars Im Se-mi (Duty After School) as the skilled police officer Yoo Eui-jung. She is assigned to the same team investigating the drug trafficking case, and is described as having a bright and optimistic personality. But Eui-jung is in a complicated position as she is also Joon-mo’s wife.
On the production side, directing for the noir is being helmed by filmmaker Han Dong-wook (Man in Love) and PD Park Geun-beom, with writing by screenwriter Jang Min-seok (Secret Reunion). Disney+’s The Worst of Evil will be launching on September 27.
