Jimin Reveals What Would Have Happened If BTS Hadn’t Renewed Their Contract

On June 13, BTS celebrated their 7th anniversary with a record-breaking virtual concert that never would have happened, had things gone differently.

It’s hard to believe now, but 2018, one of BTS‘s most successful years, nearly began with their disbandment. At 2018 MAMA in Hong KongJin revealed that the group had considered going their separate ways because of difficulties they were struggling with at the time.

We had a hard time mentally during the beginning of this year. While talking with each other, we even thought about disbanding.

In their 2020 docuseries, Break The Silence, the members opened up about these difficult times, and how they overcame them in the end.

I think it’s because things got really hard at the start of the year. There were a lot of things to think about at the time, and there was a lot of doubt about this work.

In October 2018, BTS renewed their exclusive contract with Big Hit Entertainment and went on to achieve great things in 2019 and 2020.

Although the contract renewal happened two years ago, it has been on BTS’s minds lately. At BANG BANG CON: THE LIVE, Jin mentioned it while expressing his gratitude for his members and their agency.

This is our 7th birthday. If things went as they were supposed to originally, yesterday would’ve seen the end of our contracts but I am so so thankful to have met the members as well as a good company. I am relieved that we are able to be together for a much, much longer time.

— Jin

On June 16, Jimin also brought up BTS’s contract during his live stream on YouTube. If the members hadn’t agreed to renew their contracts, BTS would have ended on June 13, 2020, and all seven would have parted ways.

“Starting from three days ago, we couldn’t have kept seeing each other, if we hadn’t all renewed our contract,” Jimin explained. He said that for their 7th anniversary, BTS hugged each other and shook hands in thanks while talking about their almost-disbandment.

Although 2020 isn’t the year anyone expected, it does have some positives. One is that BTS is still together, and will be together, for more years to come!
