Jin Ki-joo searches for My Perfect Stranger

KBS’s upcoming time-slip drama has recently gotten a translation change to My Perfect Stranger (previously Run Into You, and before that the literal translation You Whom I Met By Chance). The drama has also dropped two new character posters to whet our appetites for the quickly approaching premiere on May 1.

The drama stars Kim Dong-wook (King of Pigs) as Yoon Hae-joon, a time-traveling news anchor, and Jin Ki-joo (Showtime Begins) as Baek Yoon-young, his accidental passenger (and editor, yay!). The two travel back to 1987 via Hae-joon’s retro car for different reasons, but then find themselves stuck in the past and trying to blend in. What a fun angle! But, because this is dramaland, both our heroes find their stories are interconnected, even while Hae-joon is looking to solve a murder, and Yoon-young is looking to prevent a marriage.

My Perfect Stranger has been a long time coming due to KBS scheduling switches, but it’s nice to see them gearing up for the premiere. As for the tone, this looks like a wait-and-see-what-you-get sort of drama, as the teasers started off quirky and fun, then leaned into the more dire serial murder angle, and then bounced back to the humor. Hopefully, this is the drama telling us that the quirkiness is going to stick around, and that even though our heroes are dealing with some dark stuff, a good bit of dry humor and banter will carry us all through.

Directed by Kang Soo-yeon (Tale of Nokdu, Ghost Detective) and Lee Woong-hee, and written by by Baek So-yeon (Tale of Nokdu), My Perfect Stranger premieres on May 1 in the Monday-Tuesday slot, following Oasis.
