What is the best way to a man’s heart? According to JTBC’s newest fantasy romance Destined with You, the answer is curses. When a 300-year-old forbidden book comes into a civil servant’s possession, she takes it upon herself to free a hotshot attorney from his malady, leading to an unforeseeable and unavoidable romance.
Playing the aforementioned civil servant Lee Hong-jo is Jo Boa (Military Prosecutor Doberman). As the lowest-ranking member of Onju City Hall, Hong-jo lives an unglamorous life dealing with countless complaints. On the outside, she appears tough, but in reality, Hong-jo feels lonely and unloved. One day, she becomes the owner of a wooden box, and her life takes a sudden turn.
Entering Hong-jo’s world is Attorney Jang Shin-yu played by Kim Ro-woon (Tomorrow). Unlike Hong-jo, Shin-yu lives every day in the spotlight, but a family curse befalls him and leaves him desperately in need for a cure. Grasping at straws, he searches for the owner of the wooden box, and unbeknownst to either of them, this fateful encounter changes their lives forever.
Complicating this romance is Hong-jo’s one-sided crush Kwon Jae-kyung played by Ha Joon (Missing: The Other Side 2). Known as Onju City Hall’s lover, Jae-kyung hides his scars behind his sweet smile, but when he sees Hong-jo growing closer with Shin-yu, something in him shifts.
The last leg of this love square is Yura (Forecasting Love and Weather), playing Shin-yu’s girlfriend Yoon Na-yeon. In the past, she bullied Hong-jo, so once she sees Shin-yu paying attention to the girl she looked down on, Na-yeon’s true nature begins to come out.
Penning the script is No Ji-sul (100 Days My Prince) who will be returning to the small screen after five years since her last sensational hit, and directing will be by PD Nam Ki-hoon (Big Bet, Kiss Sixth Sense). JTBC’s Destined with You will premiere in August in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.
