Love Next Door kdrama – Episode 8 Recap and Spoilers.
Jung So-min’s character Seok-ryu revealed she had stomach cancer in the latest episode of the tvN weekend drama Love Next Door (written by Shin Ha-eun, directed by Yoo Je-won), which aired on the 8th.
In episode 8, Seok-ryu (played by Jung So-min) made an effort to keep her health concerns from Seung-hyo (played by Jung Hae-in). Seung-hyo confessed his feelings, saying, “I can’t keep this inside any longer. I’m going crazy because of you—I like you. I’m worried about you and hope you’re taking care of yourself and surrounded by good people. Take your time to think about it and respond when you’re ready.”
The next morning, Seok-ryu asked Seung-hyo if she could really take her time with her response. Seung-hyo replied cheerfully, “Yes, think about it seriously. But if there’s no deadline, it might seem a bit strange.” They then went to a convenience store together, setting a tentative deadline for their response as the 11th.
Pomegranate was taken aback by Seung-hyo’s message saying, “There are ten days left. Have a good day today,” and questioned if Choi Seung had sent her an emoticon. Her ex-fiancé Hyun-joon (played by Han Junwoo) then appeared with jasmine tea, a reminder of their first meeting, and said, “I’ve changed my approach. The last plan didn’t work, so I’m going to start over.” Pomegranate was conflicted by Hyun-joon’s attempt to rekindle their relationship.
Caught by her parents attending a cooking school, Pomegranate defended her dream by saying it was something she had worked hard to achieve. However, Geunsik (played by Jo Hanchul) criticized her, questioning her perseverance and experience. Dong-jin (played by Lee Seung-hyeop), her supportive younger brother, expressed his frustration, wondering why he couldn’t pursue his own dreams despite his parents’ support. Geun-tae opposed her cooking ambitions, citing his own negative experience with the profession.
Seok-ryu, feeling overwhelmed, left home and walked through the night with Seung-hyo, reflecting on her life and the regret of wasted moments.
Hyun-joon asked Seung-hyo to build a house, but Seung-hyo refused and stated, “Don’t mention Seok-ryu’s name in this conversation. Don’t keep appearing out of nowhere. You and she are over.” Hyun-joon insisted their relationship wasn’t easily over and challenged Seung-hyo to understand their past. Seung-hyo, firmly believing in Seok-ryu, dismissed any curiosity about the past and declared his feelings for her.
In a dramatic turn, Seok-ryu collapsed from stomach pain. Despite Seung-hyo’s insistence on going to the hospital, Seok-ryu relied on Hyun-joon. At the hospital, Seok-ryu told the medical staff, “I had surgery in the US three years ago. I was diagnosed with stage 2 stomach cancer, which led to the removal of 70% of my stomach and chemotherapy.”
