Actor Kim Woo-bin recently opened up about the challenging and emotional period he endured while receiving treatment for nasopharyngeal cancer.
On the 16th, a video titled ‘Kim Woo-bin Kim Sung-kyun {Salty Brother} EP. 59 Small-capacity bladder man who looks for a bathroom as soon as he sits down’ was released on Shin Dong-yup’s Salty Brother channel. The episode featured Kim Woo-bin and Kim Sung-kyun as guests, discussing their experiences and relationship.
The show began by recounting the special bond between Kim Woo-bin and Shin Dong-yup, which started when Kim Woo-bin was a rookie on the sitcom ‘Vampire Idol.’ Kim Woo-bin expressed his gratitude, recalling how Shin Dong-yup, despite being a famous celebrity, generously bought him drinks and meals, influencing him greatly with his considerate behavior on set.
When Shin Dong-yup praised the cast of ‘Vampire Idol,’ including Lee Soo-hyuk and Chun Woo-hee, Kim Woo-bin reflected on how challenging it is now to treat his junior colleagues to meals, despite the fatigue. Shin Dong-yup humorously remembered Kim Woo-bin’s low tolerance for alcohol, saying he became more charming when drunk and often admitted it with a cheerful “Hyung, I’m drunk.”
Kim Woo-bin mentioned that he keeps busy by working out, socializing, and visiting public saunas. When Shin Dong-yup brought up actress Shin Min-ah, his partner for a decade, Kim Woo-bin playfully pretended not to know who she was, leading to a light-hearted exchange.
Shin Dong-yup expressed his shock upon learning about Kim Woo-bin’s illness, noting that Kim Woo-bin’s stoicism made it hard to gauge his struggle. Comparing Kim Woo-bin’s experience to his own mother’s chemotherapy, Shin Dong-yup recognized the immense challenge Kim Woo-bin faced.
Kim Woo-bin shared his positive outlook, despite the daunting diagnosis. He was initially frightened by the prognosis but chose to view his situation as an opportunity for reflection and family time. He received significant support and prayers, which he believed contributed to his progress. He expressed hope that more families could experience similar miracles and viewed his recovery as a personal mission.
Shin Dong-yup praised Kim Woo-bin for transforming his crisis into a source of strength and inspiration. Kim Woo-bin also talked about his struggle to express his love to his parents, despite their close relationship. Kim Sung-kyun agreed, observing that people often find it easier to show affection to friends than to their own parents.
Kim Woo-bin and Shin Min-ah have been in a healthy relationship since July 2015. After being diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in 2017, Kim Woo-bin paused his career to focus on treatment and was declared cured in 2019.
Kim Woo-bin recently appeared in Netflix’s ‘Officer Black Belt,’ which premiered on the 13th. In the action film, he plays Lee Jeong-do, a 9th-degree black belt in Taekwondo, Kendo, and Judo, who becomes a martial arts officer to monitor people with electronic ankle bracelets and prevent crime.
