Online community, theqoo, recently held a survey for the upper half of the year, to find out the products that many Koreans who love and use makeup daily rave about. Firstly, they established that the most common routine goes by foundation, concealer then powder for a matte finish, while the second most common routine only covers foundation and powder.
A total of 111 users voted for their favorite products. For makeup base, it seems that the most popular two are Benefit‘s The Porefessional primer, followed by Etude House‘s Glow On Base. The Porefessional is globally popular given that it provides a smooth, semi-matte canvas, while the Glow On Base creates a dewy skin effect, explaining its popularity amongst Koreans who favor the look.
For foundation, Estée Lauder‘s Double Wear Stay-in-place foundation won out, with netizens commenting that it simply just does not budge. One netizen even said that she wore the foundation on a scuba trip, and it did not get erased even underwater. Lâncome‘s Teint Idole Ultra Wear comes in second place at a difference of only 3 votes, with praises for its ability to adhere to the skin. It is recommended to use a light layer only.
No surprises here – the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray was the top pick for makeup fixer. Local brand Hera‘s Makeup Fixer spray came in second, although the Urban Decay one won by a landslide.
For powder finishes, the Makeup Forever UHD Pressed Powder was the most popular, followed by the Laura Mercier Mineral Finishing Loose Powder. Both are translucent shades. One netizen commented that she prefers loose powder over pressed, as loose powder can be repurposed to absorb oil on the hairline at the end of a long day.
For concealer, a drugstore brand won out. The Missha Cover Maestro Tip Concealer won, due to its ability to be applied to fine spots and corners. Nars‘ Radiant Creamy Concealer, a product highly raved about overseas as well, took second place. Many netizens have also praised third place winner, The Saem‘s Cover Perfection Tip Concealer, for its value-for-money at just a little over $3 USD per tube.
Although globally, many may not even factor in BB Cream into the routine, Koreans still love their BB Creams for days that they do not require much coverage or a full face of makeup. The BB Cream was once extremely popular at the start of K-Beauty’s popularity in the early 2010s, but has then dropped as people began to focus on cushion foundations instead. As less brands are manufacturing it, many turn to Missha, which is known for their sublime BB Creams, the most popular being their Choboyang BB Cream.
With K-Beauty on the rise, many look towards Korean daily makeup trends for tips on how to get that smooth skin! As the community prepares a lip products version of the survey, stay tuned to find out just what products are the most popular in South Korea.
