L Dares to Love in new rom-com with Lee Yoo-young

The first script reading stills have dropped for KBS’s new rom-com Dare to Love Me (previously Treat Me Carelessly), with L (a.k.a. Kim Myung-soo)(Numbers) and Lee Yoo-young (Insider) as our opposites-attract main pair.

Based on a popular webtoon by the same title, L takes on our hero Shin Yoon-bok, who shares a namesake with the real historical figure and painter from Joseon times. It’s apt in a way as our story’s Yoon-bok is a 21st century scholar and stiff upper lip, whose family remains steeped in Confucian traditions. From generation to generation, Yoon-bok’s family has upheld their heritage at the Sunsan village and our hero, in turn, lives by the high-minded Confucius philosophies.

But because ~fate~ and ~drama~, our heroine is named after the also real Joseon painter Kim Hong-do. In contrast to Yoon-bok, our Candy Hong-do (Lee Yoo-young) is a modern breadwinner woman who provides for her family through thick and thin. And despite having to pinch through her pennies, Hong-do faces her obstacles with a determined smile each day. Even with no connections in a competitive field of work, our heroine won’t let anything deter her from pursuing her dream to become a designer.

Rounding out the world of Dare to Love Me, a sharp-tongued Bae Jong-ok (Longing for You) takes on the role of fashion master Camille Jang, a luxury brand CEO. As Yoon-bok’s grandfather, Sunwoo Jae-deok (The Real Has Come) plays the dignified Shin Su-geun, who is the head patriarch at the Sunsan village.

Also in a supporting role, Park Eun-seok’s (Penthouse) character is the two-faced and ambitious Lee Jun-ho. Presumably, he’ll be our big bad causing ruckus for our leads as the owner of a fancy traditional Korean restaurant in Sunsan village.

Directed by PD Jang Yang-ho with scripts by Park Yumi, KBS’s Dare to Love Me will be following Nothing Uncovered in the Monday-Tuesday slot, premiering next month on May 13.
