Actor Lee Joon-hyuk is set to make a highly anticipated return to television as Seo Dong-jae in the TVING original series Dong Jae, the Good or the Bastard. On September 12, the show unveiled a poster marking Lee Joon-hyuk’s meaningful comeback as the complex character, Seo Dong-jae.
Dong Jae, the Good or the Bastard, a spin-off of the acclaimed Stranger, delves into the intense survival story of prosecutor Seo Dong-jae. This character is determined to leave behind his past as a sponsored prosecutor and earn recognition in his present role. The series will feature a dramatic clash between Seo Dong-jae, who emerges from a tumultuous period, and Nam Wan-seong (played by Park Sung-woong), the CEO of Lee Hong Construction, who brings up the mistakes Dong-jae wishes to forget.
The announcement of this spin-off, focusing on the irksome yet endearing Seo Dong-jae, has generated significant excitement. Fans are particularly eager to see Lee Joon-hyuk, who brought depth to the character in Secret Forest, return as the lead. The series also benefits from the creative input of writer Lee Soo-yeon, who penned Stranger seasons 1 and 2, alongside writers Hwang Ha-jeong and Kim Sang-won. Director Park Gun-ho will oversee production, promising a high-quality continuation of the story.
A recently released teaser has captured attention by hinting at the dramatic continuation of Seo Dong-jae’s journey. The main character poster reveals the dual nature of Seo Dong-jae, showcasing his hardened demeanor with a glimpse of his more vulnerable side. His sharp eyes reflect his transformation, moving beyond his previously sly smile.
The poster’s portrayal of Seo Dong-jae’s shadowy half-face underscores the character’s duality, embodying the conflict of ‘good and bad.’ As Seo Dong-jae navigates new cases and crises with his astute investigative skills and worldly wisdom, viewers are eager to see what challenges lie ahead for him.
The production team of Dong Jae, the Good or the Bastard shared, “We created this spin-off as a TVING original to explore a new narrative through Seo Dong-jae’s perspective. As the title suggests, Seo Dong-jae, who has been both loved and loathed, will offer a fresh and engaging experience distinct from Stranger.”
