Love Next Door kdrama – Episode 14 Recap and Spoilers.
In episode 14 of Love Next Door, which aired on September 29, Choi Seung-hyo (Jung Hae-in) decided to propose to Bae Seok-ryu (Jung So-min), but his plans went awry from start to finish, leaving him frustrated.
Bae Seok-ryu refused to marry him, stating firmly, “I won’t marry you.” Amid the conflict between Na Mi-sook (Park Ji-young) and Seo Hye-sook (Jang Young-nam), their relationship was discovered, putting their romance in an unprecedented crisis.
The viewership ratings for episode 14 averaged 8.2% in the metropolitan area, peaking at 9.4%, and averaged 7.1% with a high of 8.0% nationwide, ranking first in its time slot across both cable and comprehensive programming (based on Nielsen Korea’s paid platforms).
Choi Seung-hyo supported Bae Seok-ryu, who was struggling with low self-esteem due to employment issues. Thanks to his encouragement, Bae Seok-ryu’s recipe, which he had secretly submitted to a cooking contest, won third place, and he helped him revive his cooking vlog that he had filmed as a hobby in the U.S. Meanwhile, Choi Seung-hyo was preparing to propose to Bae Seok-ryu. However, his ‘D-day’ was a series of unpredictable events akin to Murphy’s Law. The car carrying the flowers was towed away after a minor accident, and the cake, which was supposed to be the highlight of the event, was smashed to the ground.
In the end, the two returned to Atelier Inn with none of the day’s plans going as expected. Although a bit late, Choi Seung-hyo proposed to Bae Seok-ryu by giving her a bracelet. However, what he received in return was a calm and firm rejection: “I can’t get married. No, I won’t.” Everything about the proposal was unexpected, but Bae Seok-ryu’s rejection was even more surprising. Shocked, Choi Seung-hyo reflected on the day and pondered the reasons behind her refusal. Despite ruminating on what had gone wrong, he couldn’t find an answer.
The issue wasn’t with Choi Seung-hyo but with Bae Seok-ryu. When she picked him up, once again alone and drunk, she asked, “Why did you reject my proposal?” When he expressed that things were good enough as they were, Choi Seung-hyo replied, “It could be better. I could be your roof, you could be my rafters, and we could live happily ever after, stronger and more comfortably, while avoiding the wind and rain and getting plenty of sunlight.” However, Bae Seok-ryu was genuinely worried about a relapse, which was why she couldn’t promise him eternity.
Ultimately, Bae Seok-ryu opened her heart to Choi Seung-hyo’s sincerity: “I want to live with you. Even if I live a hundred years, ten years, or even just one day, I want to be with you.” Tearfully, she accepted his second proposal. But at that very moment, Na Mi-sook, Bae Geun-sik (Jo Han-cheol), Seo Hye-sook, and Choi Kyung-jong (by Lee Seung-joon) appeared. The mixed reactions of bewilderment, surprise, and confusion from both families upon seeing Choi Seung-hyo holding Bae Seok-ryu drew significant attention.
In particular, Na Mi-sook and Seo Hye-sook declared a “complete breakup” over the issue of the “Lavender” group’s cruise. The subtitle changed from “The Sweetness of Love” to “The Bitterness of Life,” increasing curiosity about the remaining two episodes.
