MBC’s Sci-Fi Anthology “SF8” Will Premiere Next Month

The crossover project “SF8” of movies and dramas will meet with viewers every Friday night from August.

MBC will release the entire series for a total of eight weeks at 10PM every Friday night, starting with its first broadcast on Friday, August 14th.

SF8 is a Korean version of the original SF anthology series produced by Soofilm, joined by MBC and the Korean Film Directors’ Association (DGK) Wavve. Director Kim Eui-suk, Roh Deok, Min Gyoo-dong, Ahn Gook-jin, Oh Ki-hwan, Lee Yoon-jeong-II, Jang Cheol-soo and Han Ka-ram and starred by Kim Bo-ra, Moon So-ri, Shin So-yul, Hani, UEE, Lee David, Lee Dong-hwi, Lee Yeon-hee, Lee Yoo-young, Ye Soo-jung, Choi Sung-eun, Choi Si-won and others.

The schedule for MBC’s broadcast has been confirmed following the exclusive pre-release of all works through the OTT platform Wavve.

SF8 visualizes various materials such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), robots, games, fantasy, horror, supernatural power and disasters against the backdrop of the near future.

The various materials include; “Nursing” (Min Gyoo-dong), a story of robots that are more human than humans, “Blink”(Han Ka-ram), an SF investigative story about a detective who hates AI who has to work with an AI implanted partner, “Joan’s Galaxy” (Lee Yoon-jeong-II), the story of youths living different lives, communing in a world full of find dust, “Female Shaman” (Roh Deok), a story of characters who track down the secret of the fortune telling service which predicts the future, “White Crow” (Jang Cheol-soo), a story about a BJ who is trapped in the virtual world, “Love Virtually” (Oh Ki-hwan), a rom-com about a man and a woman who meet in the world of Virtual Reality, continuing to love in the real world, “Baby It’s Over Outside” (Ahn Gook-jin), a story about a man and a woman who depend on each other at the end of the world and “Empty Body” (Kim Eui-suk), a story about a mother who suspects her AI resuscitated son.

The film industry is also responding to SF8 as it is directed by eight film directors, including talented directors who have proven both their work and box office success and rising directors. The ‘Incheon Film Commission’ participated in production support and all of its works have been invited to the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival through “SF8 in BIFAN”, while “Joan’s Galaxy” was invited to the Seoul International Women’s Film Festival, leading to positive reviews of all of SF8 as well as individual works.

SF8 is a project that incorporates MBC’s experimental spirit”, said Do In-tae, head of MBC’s media strategy division. “In addition to the meaning of crossing the boundaries of contents of movies and dramas, it also has the meaning of diversifying services across broadcasting and OTT platforms”, he said. “More than anything else, I expect that individual works will appeal to viewers”. MBC will continue to provide viewers with various forms and material works.
