Netflix has announced its fourth quarter earnings and one drama statistics stood out the most to kdrama fans!
Netflix has surpassed the 200 million subscriptions for the first time ever; it had surpassed 100 million subscriptions in 2017. The Asia-Pacific region was the second largest region to lead Netflix’s growth after EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa).
The result of “Sweet Home” reception was also included in the announcement. Netflix revealed that 22 million paid subscription households around the world watched the drama for the first four weeks after its release, making it one of the most successful Netflix series to have come out of Netflix in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Since 2015, Netflix has invested over 770 billion won in Korean drama productions, and this year, they’re expected to dedicate even more resource to produce more kdramas.
Released on December 18, “Sweet Home” tells the story of a group of people fighting against monsters. The unique storyline along with the cast amazing performance became the talk of town; many fans have been demanding a second season since the drama ended with a shocking cliffhanger.
“Sweet Home” is led by Song Kang, Lee Jin Wook, Lee Si Young and Lee Do Hyun.
