NewJeans‘ philanthropy has caught quite the attention recently.
On December 22, Kim Minja, the CEO of the welfare organization Snail of Love, announced that the group had delivered sponsorship funds for deaf people.
The donation was made from a portion of the album revenue earned by NewJeans. This, however, isn’t the first time they contributing to the cause. Last year, ADOR and Newjeans had donated proceedings from their sales profits to the same organization. Through this second sponsorship, NewJeans has joined as the seventh member of the organization’s “Soul Leader” club. It is an honorable designation given automatically to donors whose accumulated donation amount exceeds ₩99.0 million KRW (about $76,400 USD).
The funds donated by NewJeans will be used for projects that support sound-recovery-related treatments and assistance. These projects include artificial cochlear surgery for deaf people, external hearing device replacement, and speech rehabilitation therapy.
The NewJeans members mentioned that the reason why they decided to donate a second time was because the stories of people who received help through their first donation touched their hearts.
After last year’s sponsorship, we heard about families who received the gift of sound. We realized how meaningful it is after hearing stories of how it gave hope to a child who couldn’t hear the happy birthday song being sung to them, or to someone hard of hearing who had become distant from others due to communication difficulties. We hope to reach more people through good music in the future as well and continue supporting the deaf community through ongoing sponsorships.
