- A new player is upping their game in the K-content industry, with skyTV and KT’s Media Genie joining hands and re-branding themselves as a family of channels under their new name, ENA. Officially launching on April 29, the first drama with the ENA label will be There Is No Gu Pil-soo, which premieres a few days later on May 4. A new teaser dropped this week for the comedy-bromance which stars Kwak Do-won (CCTV, The Man Standing Next) and Yoon Doo-joon (Let’s Eat 3). [Maeil Kyungje, MBC]
- Another ENA project in the works is Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo and the lineup has been confirmed: Park Eun-bin (The King’s Affection), Kang Tae-oh (Doom at Your Service), and Kang Ki-young (A Moment at Eighteen), among others. Written by Moon Ji-won with PD Yoo In-shik (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2) at the helm, the drama will be available on Netflix and is tentatively scheduled to release in June. [Newsen]
- KBS drama Minamdang released photos from the first script reading, featuring the main cast: Seo In-gook (Doom at Your Service), Oh Yeon-seo (Mad for Each Other), Kwak Shi-yang (IDOL: The Coup), Kwon Soo-hyun (Crime Puzzle), and Kang Mina (Moonshine). Expected to air in June following Red Heart, the comedy-mystery is directed by PD Go Jae-hyun (Will You Have Dinner With Me) with scripts penned by Park Hye-jin (Ruler – Master of the Mask). [KBS]
- KBS has been busy on the casting front as well. True Sword Battle announced its lead actor, D.O. (100 Days My Prince), who will be playing a delinquent prosecutor who serves justice by his own rules. Scripts will be written by Im Young-bin (Sketch) with PD Kim Sung-ho (Move to Heave) attached to direct. [KBS]
- A Lee Seung-gi (Mouse) and Lee Se-young (The Red Sleeve Cuff) re-pairing was also confirmed for KBS in a new friends-to-lovers romance, Love According to Law. Written by Im Ji-eun (One Night) and directed by PD Lee Eun-jin (Chief Kim), the planned air date is August 29. [Newsen]
- TVING’s upcoming mystery-horror Monstrous released another poster, and we finally get a peek at the rest of the cast. Premiering soon on April 29, Gu Kyo-hwan (D.P.) and Shin Hyun-bin (Reflection of You) star in the drama alongside Kim Ji-young (Graceful Friends), Park Ho-san (Tracer), Kwak Dong-yeon (Vincenzo), and Nam Da-reum (The Great Shaman Ga Doo-shim). - Rising star Yoon Chan-young (All of Us Are Dead) is returning to the supernatural genre in a new drama called Delivery Man. Taking on the lead role, Yoon will be playing a taxi driver who helps ghosts move onto the afterlife by fulfilling their last wishes. Filming is set to begin once casting has been finalized. [News1]
- Over on MBC, a broadcast date has finally been announced for Doctor Lawyer which stars So Ji-sub (My Secret Terrius), Shin Sung-rok (Kairos), and Im Soo-hyang (When I Was the Most Beautiful). Written by Jang Hong-chul (Class of Lies) and co-directed by PD Lee Yong-seok (Haechi) and Lee Dong-hyun (She Knows Everything), the drama premieres next month on May 27. [MBC]
- In the meantime, we can expect to see MBC’s supernatural comedy Showtime Begins! on April 23 with our lead actors Park Hae-jin (Old School Intern) and Jin Ki-joo (Oh! Samkwang Villa). More promos were released this week along with news of Jin Ki-joo’s next project, a new KBS drama opposite Kim Dong-wook (King of Pigs). [10 Asia, MBC (1), (2)]
