Park Kyu-young returns from her grave in Netflix’s Celebrity
by tccolb
The first promos have dropped for Netflix’s new mystery-noir series Celebrity, showcasing the glitzy and glamorous world of fame – in addition to the shadowy corners hidden in plain sight.
In this story, Park Kyu-young (Dal-li and Gamjatang) stars as Seo Ah-ri, a social media influencer who goes viral overnight. Opening with her grand entrance through the crowd of flashing cameras, the teaser also shows us how influencers film videos and livestreams, promoting (and selling) products to their eagerly watching fanbase.

We then return to our mysterious heroine who poses the question of how she became a celebrity, even getting noticed by the notorious workaholic and cosmetics CEO Kang Min-hyuk (Oh! Master). In contrast, Ah-ri’s new rise to fame is a terrible shock for her old school friend – and fellow influencer – Jeon Hyo-sung (Memorist) as well as the cultural foundation chairwoman Lee Chung-ah (One Dollar Lawyer).
As the sequence soon reveals, Ah-ri was supposedly dead. The speculation then grows on what, how, and why, and head lawyer Lee Dong-gun (Leverage) needs some time to process the information overload. With a brief glimpse of a sudden car accident, Ah-ri reveals the truth, which we also read in the poster’s tagline: “I was murdered by my follower.”
The teaser then closes on a moment in the past when Ah-ri had posed for a group photo with other influencers, looking chummy for the camera but quickly dispersing once the shoot is done.
Written by Kim Yi-young (Haechi) with PD Kim Chul-kyu (Flower of Evil) at the helm, Netflix’s 12-episode series Celebrity will be releasing on June 30.
