Park Min-young tries to avoid Love in Contract with Go Kyung-pyo and Kim Jae-young

tvN drama Love in Contract has been ramping up their promos with a new poster and video teaser coming out this past week.

Building on the classic rom-com trope of contract marriages, Park Min-young’s (Forecasting Love and Weather) Choi Sang-eun takes it to the next level by turning it into her business model. Catering to clients who wish to preserve their singledom, but need the guise of a marriage temporarily, Sang-eun helps out by pretending to be their perfect wife.

In the role of the mysterious Jung Ji-ho, Go Kyung-pyo (Private Lives) has reserved Sang-eun’s Mon-Wed-Fri slot for the last five years and counting. Their actual relationship is strictly professional. But when Sang-eun signs on a new Tue-Thu-Sat client – superstar Kang Hae-jin, played by Kim Jae-young (Reflection of You) – the lines between fake and real start to blur for our three leads.

The new video teaser begins with Sang-eun’s sales pitch: “For that moment when you need a marriage for a very short time.” In the sequence that follows, our heroine goes through different situations that would benefit having a (fake) wife.

For some, the motivation is livelihood and to secure an inheritance. For others, it can be a matter of avoidance, from no longer wanting to be pestered by relatives. Sometimes there’s a business advantage, creating an opportunity to further a career. Or maybe it’s filial duty, wanting to fulfill grandma’s last wishes before it’s too late.

In each scenario, Sang-eun dresses and acts to the part, succeeding in making everyone happy in return. The video then closes on her final line, “I can offer just marriage. Love is not included.”

Written by Ha Gu-dam with PD Nam Sung-woo (My Roommate Is a Gumiho, Old School Intern) at the helm, tvN’s Love in Contract premieres next month on September 21.
