This year, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) revealed its top 20 picks for the 2023 Global Artist Chart for the 11th year. This list is calculated according to a musical artist’s worldwide sales including streaming, downloads, and physical music formats during the calendar year, covering their entire body of work. This is how the IFPI describes their methods of data calculation.

For the fourth time, Taylor Swift topped the chart and earned the title of the 2023 Global Recording Artist of the Year Award. And for the first time in its history, four K-Pop artists are in the top 10 of the list, with an additional two in the top 20!

The highest-ranking K-Pop artist on the list is SEVENTEEN in the #2 position, followed closely by Stray Kids at #3. Brand new to the chart are both TXT (who ranked at #7) and NewJeans (ranking at #8), showing the evolving popularity of the K-Pop music genre over the years.

The other two K-Pop artists on the list are IVE, who ranked #12, and NCT DREAM, who ranked #15. It’s the first time both of these artists have made it onto the IFPI Global Recording Artist Chart too!

BTS is the K-Pop artist who has appeared the most times on the list previously, ranking at #1 two different times and making it into the top 10 for three other years. SEVENTEEN first charted at #9 in 2021 and jumped up to #6 in 2022, showing a steady incline on the list. Stray Kids also ranked previously in 2022 at #7.
