Song Hye-gyo hashes revenge, reveling in The Glory darkness

A new poster and video teaser came out this week for Netflix’s eerie revenge drama The Glory, giving us our first look at the main lineup: Song Hye-gyo (Now, We Are Breaking Up), Lee Do-hyun (Melancholia), and Im Ji-yeon (Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area) in addition to Yeom Hye-ran (The Uncanny Counter), Park Sung-hoon (Memorials), and Jung Sung-il (Our Blues).

Deeply traumatized by the violence she experienced in high school, our wronged heroine Moon Dong-eun (Song Hye-gyo) has been carefully playing the long game to take her revenge – targeting both the perpetrators as well as the bystanders who turned a blind eye.

Supporting her, though, is the mysterious plastic surgeon Joo Yeo-jung (Lee Do-hyun), who recognizes that Dong-eun doesn’t need a knight in shining armor. But he can offer to be her knife-wielding executioner. Another ally who extends her hand is Kang Hyun-nam (Yeom Hye-ran). As a victim of family abuse, Hyun-nam needed to protect her child and took grave measures to stop the violence, once and for all.

In high school, Dong-eun’s torment was led by Park Yeon-jin (Im Ji-yeon) and Jeon Jae-joon (Park Sung-hoon). But while Jae-joon is still the rich wild child who does whatever he pleases, Yeon-jin is now in the public eye as a famous influencer and risks losing everything if the truth is revealed. The danger extends to Yeon-jin’s husband as well – CEO Ha Do-young (Jung Sung-il) – and, if all goes to plan, he could be the one to open Pandora’s box and unleash Dong-eun’s hell upon their family.

The teaser begins with Dong-eun explaining how she feels as we see snippets from her violent past. We then briefly cut to Yeo-jung examining a knife before returning to Dong-eun, who wonders what could have happened differently if someone or something had helped her.

Adding to the frustration, one person from her high school doesn’t even remember her. Dong-geun thus tells her that she’s going to hell. Hyun-nam calls her crazy but still negotiates an alliance. All the while, Yeon-jin throws a tantrum before warning her husband to not open boxes.

In the sequence, we get a few glimpses of a robe-clad Jae-joon as well before the teaser comes to a close on our heroine. She claps in appreciation and then faces the camera to reveal her bitter resolve.

With scripts by the Kim Eun-sook (The King: Eternal Monarch, Mr. Sunshine) and PD Ahn Gil-ho (Happiness, Watcher) as the talent behind the camera, Netflix’s The Glory releases this month on December 30.
