South Korean President Moon Jae In Congratulates BTS for Topping Billboard “Hot 100” Chart

“Dynamite” has been breaking records left and right, and everyone has noticed. From fans to non-fans and now, even South Korea’s president Moon Jae In!

President Moon Jae In shared a sweet message to BTS for their amazing achievement to his Twitter, applauding the group for writing a new chapter in K-pop history and for the message their song ‘Dynamite’ has. His message reads,

“BTS has just hit their first number one on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, paving a new chapter in Korean pop history as the Korean band to do so. After having charted at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart four times, they have now charted on both charts at number one. It is absolutely amazing.

It is an amazing feat that further increases pride in K-pop. The song ‘Dynamite’, which topped the charts, is incredibly meaningful as it sends a message of comfort and people to people all around the globe affected by COVID-19.

It will bring great comfort to Korean people suffering from the national crisis brought about by COVID-19. I sent my heartfelt congratulations to the group.”

This is not the first time Moon Jae In has congratulated BTS. In 2018, the President took to Twitter to congratulate BTS for charting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with their album “Love Yourself: Tear”. At the time, it was the first-ever Korean album to claim the spot and the first non-English album to do so in twelve years.

In 2018, BTS became the youngest recipients of the Order of Cultural Merit by President Moon Jae In and were awarded due to their noteworthy contributions in spreading Korean culture and language worldwide. President Moon Jae In is not the only South Korean politician to congratulate BTS, however. Former Prime Minister Lee Nak Yeon also took to Twitter to congratulate the boys for their achievements. His tweets read,

“BTS has finally hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

They have written a new chapter in history for K-pop with the debut of their first all-English song.

Their powerful dynamite will help wash away the depression brought about by COVID-19.

We were able to gain comfort and strength during these difficult times.

Thank you, BTS.”

Congratulations, BTS!
