Our two favorite weekend kdramas are doing well!
On January 16, “The Uncanny Counter” aired its 13th episode which is discovered belatedly to have been written by the director of the drama following the screenwriter’s abrupt departure. According to Nielsen Korea, “The Uncanny Counter” episode 13 rated an average of 9.4%, slightly lower than its last week’s episode.
JTBC’s “Hush” fell to an all-time low scoring 1.9%, while TV Chosun’s “The Goddess of Revenge” rated an average of 2.4%, a slight rise.
SBS’s “Delayed Justice” continues to hold on well scoring 4.5% and 5.5% for its two parts.
While tvN’s “Mr. Queen” continued to dominate the ratings battle scoring an average nationwide rating of 12.5%, winning first place in its timeslot across all channels, both public and cable.

Episode 11 of “Mr. Queen” was probably one of my least favorites because it was mostly boring, and I’ve just found out “Mr. Queen” has 20 episodes not 16, I am surprised, as far as I remember, it was 16 episodes, did I miss something? According to Asianwiki and Wikipedia its 20, but I remember seeing 16 at first. If you guys know something let me know in the comments.
So this means we’re officially half-way through the series, I honestly don’t know what material they have to cover 9 more episodes, the way I see it, 16 episodes would’ve been the obvious answer. I am genuinely curious to see how the series wraps up considering that it has 9 more episodes to go, that’s a lot, like a lot a lot.
In regards to “The Uncanny Counter,” I was surprised by the replacement of the screenwriter, if you watch a lot of kdramas or write yourself you could probably tell there was a switch in the writing process.

So, they killed off the main antagonist of the series in the most boring and unfulfilling way possible, I was waiting for that ‘IT’ and it didn’t come. I didn’t expect him to just kill himself just like that. For context, this episode was written by the director.
From a writing perspective, the original screenwriter would’ve never done this. For a character that has tormented our beloved family, this is such an unfulfilling and lacking scene, without much of an introduction to his demise and a rushed resolution to his ‘death,’ it felt futile and meaningless. This should’ve been done a lot more differently; this should’ve been IT, the end.
A suicide when he’s done so much so far and basically killed even his father, yet somehow he exhibits compassion towards kids, such conflicting character descriptions of two vastly different qualities.
I can understand the direction they want to go through because they want a theatrical ending, and the obvious choice is someone who has the money and the power to shake them to their core, this deviated a lot from the original idea which focused on catching evil spirits and now we’re integrating politics into this needlessly. This is something I wasn’t a huge fan of to begin with.
I must say, “The Uncanny Counter” script thus far hasn’t been the best considering the hype it’s been getting, but this could either get somewhat worse or potentially better, we’ll find out by today’s episode because this one is written by the new screenwriter.
