The Judge from Hell kdrama – Episode 3 Recap and Spoilers.
In the third episode of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama The Judge from Hell, which aired on the 27th, Kang Bit-na (Park Shin-hye), a demon inhabiting the body of a judge, set out to punish those who committed insurance murder and child abuse. Kang Bit-na shouted at the unrepentant perpetrator, “Bad adults should be punished!” Her declaration of sending the sinner to hell heightened expectations for an even more powerful confrontation. That evening’s broadcast recorded an 8.5% rating in the metropolitan area, 8% nationwide, and 2.9% in the 2049 demographic, making it the top-rated Friday-Saturday drama. The peak viewership rating reached a remarkable 11.6%.
Earlier, Kang Bit-na had learned that Han Da-on (Kim Jae-young) had killed three people and sent him to hell, which turned out to be a mistaken judgment. Bael (Shin Sung-rok), the second-in-command of hell, ordered Kang Bit-na to punish a total of 20 sinners over the course of a year. Then, unexpectedly, Han Da-on came back to life. Although Han Da-on arrested Kang Bit-na, no one believed his claims that he had returned from the dead and that Kang Bit-na had killed him.
Kang Bit-na presided over the trial of Jang Soon-hee (Nam Neung-mi), who was accused of kidnapping and enticing a minor. After her son died in an accident, Jang Soon-hee took her grandson Yoo Ji-ho (Yang Hee-sang) away from her son’s remarried daughter-in-law, Bae Ja-young (Im Se-joo). Bae Ja-young, an elementary school teacher, cried and begged for Yoo Ji-ho to be returned, insisting he was her son. However, Jang Soon-hee accused Bae Ja-young of having collected life insurance money from her two deceased husbands.
Suspicious, Kang Bit-na approached both Bae Ja-young and Jang Soon-hee to uncover the truth. Han Da-on, who had been observing Kang Bit-na since her death and resurrection, also joined in. During this investigation, Kang Bit-na discovered something unusual in Yoo Ji-ho’s picture diary, which was with Jang Soon-hee. One drawing depicted a car plunging into water at night, while another showed someone pressing Yoo Ji-ho’s face with a pillow. These images clearly suggested insurance homicide and child abuse.
Yoo Ji-ho, fearing Bae Ja-young’s threat—”If you tell the truth, I’ll kill your grandmother too”—was unable to speak out. Han Da-on pledged to investigate Bae Ja-young but warned that it would be challenging since the only witness was a child. This concern linked back to Han Da-on’s own hidden trauma.
When he was young, Han Da-on had witnessed his family being murdered. He testified to the police, but they were skeptical of his account. Although Kang Bit-na was unaware of Han Da-on’s past trauma, she told him, “I unconditionally believe what children say, even if it’s Han Da-on.” Her words touched on his pain, causing Han Da-on to shed tears.
Kang Bit-na issued the most lenient sentence for Jang Soon-hee, but custody of Ji-ho remained with Ja-young. Soon after the trial ended, Jang Soon-hee collapsed for an unknown reason. Bae Ja-young then brought Yoo Ji-ho to her home, where she committed brutal acts of child abuse. A short time later, Kang Bit-na confronted Bae Ja-young, brandishing a knife, and declared, “If you lie, you’re a bad adult. Bad adults should be punished!” The episode concluded with her echoing exactly what Bae Ja-young had said.
The third episode of The Judge from Hell featured the resurrection of Han Da-on, who died due to Kang Bit-na’s judgment; Han Da-on’s trauma; a woman’s terrible greed that led to the deaths of her husbands; cruel child abuse; and Kang Bit-na’s full-scale punishment of those responsible for insurance murder and child abuse, all unfolding in unpredictable and rapid developments. The ending intensified the thrill by mercilessly chastising the criminal.
The explosive acting of the evil yet lovable anti-hero Kang Bit-na will continue in The Judge from Hell, airing on the 28th at 10 PM.
