Top 5 Kpop MVs: Getting Serious

This summer is less about the bops and more about the introspective pieces, I think. Come see what I found for this week’s top 5 kpop music videos!

Need something soothing to listen to? I highly recommend Maknae’s Favorite Indie list on Spotify, and not just because I put it together….

N.Flying – “Starlight”

I am such a sucker for sweet animated music videos. This one tugs at my heartstrings AND made me laugh. I love this tribute to Lee Seung Hyub’s grandparents, written to capture the feeling of his grandmother looking for his grandfather in the stars after watching him become like a child and lose his memories before he passed on.

Lee Hi – “Holo”

I really love this song. The lyrics focus on breaking out of grief and loneliness and focusing on being okay, and Lee Hi uses the slowed down doowop feel of the chorus to really layer it with strong emotion.

Somi – “What You Waiting For”

I don’t quite know what to make of this music video. The song itself is about not waiting too long to start a relationship, but the music video? I think we’re getting a glimpse into all the sides of Somi. It’s fascinating!

Hyo – “Dessert” (feat. Loopy, Soyeon)

I cannot argue with the chorus of this song. NOT. AT. ALL. Chocolate, please!

1THE9 – “Bad Guy”

Formed from the competition show Under Nineteen, 1THE9 (Wonder Nine) is one of those flash-in-the-pan temporary groups. Honestly, after watching this video, I hope they find success after the group disbands! Enjoy the solid harmonies, on-point rapping, and intense dance moves in this MV — it’s their last comeback.

Are these serious MVs the music you’ve been looking for, k-fans? Drop down in the comments and let me know!
