Learn! Korean with BTS has been a big hit with ARMYs so far—so much so that several international universities are adding it to their curriculum.

Launched in March 2020, BTS‘s free language learning show has been helping fans understand more and more of what the members say on a weekly basis. It aims to teach Korean through short clips of BTS content, focusing on targeted vocabulary and grammar points.

After the series’ successful start, Big Hit Entertainment announced on August 11 that BTS will be the stars of a successful university-level Korean language course in partnership with the Korea Foundation and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

The Learn! Korean with BTS course will be taught remotely via six overseas universities to start: Middlebury College (United States), Thang Long University (Vietnam), University of Languages and International Studies (Vietnam), École Normale Supérieure (France), EDHEC Business School (France), and Ain Shams University (Egypt).

Produced in cooperation with the Korea Language Contents Research Institute at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, the course will be made up of video clips from Run BTS! and the group’s past live broadcasts—just like the current Weverse series.

The announcement comes days after Big Hit Entertainment revealed that a Learn! Korean with BTS textbook package is set for release via the Weverse shop in late August.

Big Hit Entertainment’s education company, Big Hit Edu, will hold a finalizing ceremony with the partnering institutions on August 12. According to Hankuk University of Foreign Studies’ chancellor, many universities abroad have expressed an interest in adding Learn! Korean with BTS to their language curriculum offerings.

Classes are due to start via remote schooling this fall, courtesy of the Korea Foundation’s eSchool platform. As the COVID-19 pandemic resolves, there are plans to expand to more universities and offer offline courses. No enrolment information has been released yet, but if you live in one of the partnering countries and want to sign up, keep an eye on participating universities.
