Ji Chang-wook Transforms into a Mysterious Broker in ‘Gangnam B-side’
Gangnam B-side is a crime drama centered around a detective and a prosecutor searching for the missing club ace Jae-hee (Kim Hyung-seo) in Gangnam, involving a mysterious broker and three individuals entangled for different reasons as they uncover the hidden incidents behind the district.
Ji Chang-wook plays the role of Yoon Gil-ho, an outlaw who has taken over Gangnam and become a suspect in the investigation. He commands attention with his overwhelming presence.
Having survived alone in the back alleys of this glamorous city and its darkest corners, Yoon Gil-ho creates tension by exuding coldness with his expressionless face and piercing eyes.
Ji Chang-wook enhances the character of Yoon Gil-ho with his striking visuals, featuring long hair, a fur jacket, and flashy accessories. The most noticeable aspect is the scars on his face.
Ji Chang-wook shared, “I spent a lot of time applying makeup for the scars for each shoot,” revealing, “While hairstyles, outfits, earrings, and tattoos were important, I considered the scars on my face to be the most crucial detail.”
He continued, “Yoon Gil-ho rarely shows a clean-cut face,” explaining, “I thought those scars were the greatest device to implicitly convey what kind of life the character has lived,” which adds to the intrigue surrounding the hidden story of Yoon Gil-ho, who must navigate life on thin ice.
Ji Chang-wook also emphasized his focus on the relationships surrounding Yoon Gil-ho, describing him as “someone with clear boundaries between who is mine and who is not mine.”
Additionally, he noted, “Since he expresses himself more through his eyes and actions than through dialogue, I concentrated on his movements in each scene,” reflecting on the experience as “another new challenge.”
Actor Jo Woo-jin, who collaborated with Ji Chang-wook again after a previous project, remarked, “He presented himself as an upgrade compared to before. I felt that he has broadened and deepened,” raising expectations for the series and praising him by saying, “You will see an expanded version of Ji Chang-wook’s charm.”
Gangnam B-side will be released on Disney+ on November 6.
