In late May 2024, Super Junior’s Ryeowook married former Tahiti member Ari. Clips and photos from the wedding went viral, and fans rejoiced at seeing 15 members of Super Junior reunite for the event.
Included were several past members, like Kangin, who exited the group in 2019. Shortly after, it was announced that Kangin would join Dear U. Bubble in what appears to be his first step in returning to the industry.
However, many have not considered his return kindly, and it is related to his past criminal activity.
In October 2009, while drunk, Kangin collided with two taxis and fled from the scene before turning himself in a few hours after the incident. His blood alcohol was above the legal limit, and the following investigation resulted in a ₩8.00 million KRW (about $5,880 USD) fine.
In May 2016, the idol was involved in another hit-and-run DUI, running into a light pole and turning himself in hours after. He recieved another fine for this incident, ₩7.00 million KRW (about $5,150 USD) as there were no other people involved.
The following year, Kangin was alleged to have physically assaulted his girlfriend at a bar. Police reported that a witness called in about someone hitting a woman, but ultimately, no charges were pressed as his girlfriend did not want to.
The idol had been on hiatus for several years at this point, and left Super Junior officially in 2019. He has primarily been on hiatus since, opening a YouTube channel last year, which was met with enthusiasm from fans and criticism from netizens.
