Lee Sung-min returns in Shadow Detective 2

Lee Sung-min returns in Shadow Detective 2

After ending on a cliffhanger, Shadow Detective 2 is back with familiar faces as well as a few new ones. Reprising the role of exhausted and dogged Lieutenant Kim Taek-rok is Lee Sung-min (Reborn Rich), and this time around, our hero has a different question plaguing him: why did he survive?

The latest trailer opens with someone asking Taek-rok why Chairman Jang killed Jin-han instead of him, but Taek-rok does not know, either. A mysterious explosion occurs, and Taek-rok stares at his wall of victims and suspects, realizing that the “friend” is not one person. Thus, he begins his search for a way to win this cruel game.

As the case gets tangled, a suspicious murder happens, and a new detective appears: Women and Juvenile Affairs team leader Yeon Joo-hyun played by Kim Shin-rok (Reborn Rich). She asks what it felt like finding Chairman Jang’s dead body after his suicide, all the while keeping a watchful eye on Taek-rok. The trailer then immediately cuts to another new suspect, Jung Hae-kyun (Eve), who ominously warns our hero to be careful.

With a huge corruption case developing right here in Geumo city, Taek-rok looks out for the “friend” who could be anywhere. The trailer makes it clear that the four new cast members are not to be trusted, which includes Jung Jin-young (Queenmaker) and Joo Jin-mo (Woori The Virgin) — and given the show’s track record, anyone can be an enemy.

Returning to the show alongside Tae-rok are Kyung Su-jin (Shadow Detective) as Lee Sung-ah and Lee Hak-joo (Shadow Detective) as Sohn Kyung-chan. Joining Taek-rok, they hunt for the “friend” one by one, and Jung Jin-young’s character, retired detective Choi Do-hyung, asks if he will really continue until the end.

Fights, crashes, and deaths play in rapid succession, marking the start of Taek-rok’s retaliation against his hidden foe. He asks who the real owner is, and the “friend” threatens to come after him next if he keeps poking around. The trailer ends on Taek-rok’s face washed in red light as he vows to catch them once and for all.

Directed by Han Dong-hwa (Shadow Detective) and written by Im Chang-se (Shadow Detective), Shadow Detective 2 will premiere on July 5 on Disney+.
