Chief Detective Lee Je-hoon is on the case in 1958

MBC’s period-action Chief Detective 1958 is back with more promos, with our stalwart hero Lee Je-hoon (Taxi Driver 2) teaming up with his crew and chasing down baddies in the prequel’s new poster and teaser.
Freshly transferred from the backwaters to the big leagues in Seoul, the trailer begins with our Park Young-han (Lee Je-hoon) at an emotional low, desperate to catch the culprit and frustrated by his failure thus far. Regaining his composure, Young-han decides he’ll go back to the beginning and try again. But this time he assembles a ragtag squad, working together with crazy dog Lee Dong-hwi (Big Bet), brown bear Choi Woo-sung (Melancholia), and Yoon Hyun-soo (A Good Day to Be a Dog) who is nicknamed after the Chinese historical figure Zhuge Liang as the brains of the group.

The sequence then reveals our first glimpse of local bookshop owner Seo Eun-soo (Unlock the Boss), who is initially dismissive of the rambunctious Young-han. But as a crime novel aficionado with a keen ear for the town gossip, she’ll soon become an important source for intel to our detective team.
On his part, our hero is quite open about having little concern for social propriety when it comes to catching bad guys and Young-han doesn’t care if they’re 100 years old – lawbreakers are all bratty children in his eyes. As we come to a close, the captions then introduce Park Young-han as, “a handsome, bumpkin detective with good intuition and a good sense of humor.”
Written by Kim Young-shin with filmmaker Kim Sung-hoon (Rampant, Confidential Assignment) at the helm, MBC’s Chief Detective 1958 will be premiering next month on April 19.
