DNA Lover kdrama – Episode 9 Recap and Spoilers.
Choi Si-won and Jung In-sun reconciled their differences with an emotional hug, while Lee Tae-hwan was left in tears. In episode 9 of TV CHOSUN’s weekend miniseries ‘DNA Lover’ which aired on September 14, Seo Kang-hoon (played by Lee Tae-hwan) was seen anguishing over his constant feelings of inadequacy compared to Han So-jin (played by Jung In-sun). This despair culminated in a heart-wrenching outburst.
Meanwhile, Shim Yeon-woo (played by Choi Si-won) and Han So-jin celebrated their burgeoning romance with heartfelt gestures, including gifts of shoes and matching DNA couple bracelets after a passionate kiss. However, Seo Kang-hoon, distressed by their display of affection, was visibly upset as he observed the couple flirting while helping Han So-jin discharge from the hospital.
Han So-jin initially forgot a prior commitment upon realizing it was the anniversary of Seo Kang-hoon’s mother’s death. She hurriedly left after learning it was an important day for him, which brought a bright smile to Seo Kang-hoon’s face. Simultaneously, Shim Yeon-woo and Jang Mi-eun, dressed in matching hanboks, attended a wedding photoshoot for a friend. When Shim Yeon-woo accidentally crossed paths with Han So-jin and Seo Kang-hoon, she inquired about Seo Kang-hoon’s important prior engagement. Seo Kang-hoon clarified it was to commemorate his mother. Shim Yeon-woo then explained to Han So-jin that her presence was due to a photoshoot. Han So-jin, feeling a pang of jealousy at seeing Shim Yeon-woo with Jang Mi-eun, attempted to mask her discomfort with a smile.
Later, Han So-jin expressed her complex emotions to Seo Kang-hoon, revealing her conflicted feelings about Shim Yeon-woo, saying, “I feel both sadness and resentment, yet I just like her. Is it because she’s a DNA lover?” This confession deeply saddened Seo Kang-hoon. Meanwhile, Shim Yeon-woo struggled with her own confusing feelings and sensed a looming threat from Jang Mi-eun’s remarks about Seo Kang-hoon. Jang Mi-eun’s comment that missing the opportunity to confess could be irreversible spurred Seo Kang-hoon’s feelings for Han So-jin.
The situation intensified when Han So-jin grew increasingly anxious about the attention Shim Yeon-woo received from other women, culminating in frustration when Jang Mi-eun showed up wearing the shoes Shim Yeon-woo had gifted. On the other hand, Shim Yeon-woo, distressed by her parents’ divorce, confided in Seo Kang-hoon about her disillusionment with the concept of fate, stating, “The moment you believe you’re destined for each other, it’s the beginning of hell.”
Jang Mi-eun, after spending time with Shim Yeon-woo, visited his home early the next morning and surprised him with a coffee invitation. During a video call with Han So-jin, Jang Mi-eun appeared with abalone, freezing Han So-jin in place. Embarrassed, Han So-jin declined an invitation for lunch and quickly ended the call, spurred on by Son Ah-ri (played by Lee Soo-bin) who suggested Jang Mi-eun had stayed over. Seo Kang-hoon, offering to call Shim Yeon-woo to inquire, was met with Han So-jin’s dismissive response as she headed to the Han River.
Concerned for Han So-jin, Shim Yeon-woo rushed out, leaving Jang Mi-eun behind, and searched for Han So-jin amidst a torrential downpour. Despite Han So-jin’s attempts to ignore her phone and wander alone, Shim Yeon-woo appeared with an umbrella and reassured her, “I will explain everything. It’s a misunderstanding.” Han So-jin expressed her longing for Shim Yeon-woo to be less perfect, saying, “I wish my DNA lover would become ugly so that only I could see it.” As Shim Yeon-woo embraced her and declared his affection, both were moved to tears.
Seo Kang-hoon, arriving late, watched the pair under the umbrella with a monologue about his own shortcomings, reflecting on the missed opportunities. The episode concluded with Seo Kang-hoon, drunk and regretful, shedding tears at the playground where he first met Han So-jin as a child, lamenting, “If only I had realized my feelings sooner, would things have turned out differently?”
