Genie TV’s original series Dear Hyeri has released a preview of the poignant breakup scene between Shin Hye-sun and Lee Jin-wook.
Dear Hyeri is a heartfelt romance that explores the healing of emotional wounds between announcer Eun-ho (played by Shin Hye-sun), who develops a new outlook on life, and her ex-boyfriend Hyun-o (played by Lee Jin-wook). On the 10th, the series unveiled a pre-release video featuring the intense breakup scene between Joo Eun-ho and Jung Hyun-o, who have been together for eight years.
The video opens with the couple parting ways on the stairs after a date. What starts as a seemingly pleasant scene quickly turns somber as their conversation reveals deep-seated issues. When Hyun-o tells Eun-ho, “I don’t do that kind of thing, Eun-ho,” Eun-ho responds with, “Oh, that’s right,” leading to a typical couple’s argument.
Hyun-o insists, “I told you from the beginning that I wouldn’t do something like that,” to which Eun-ho replies, “If you didn’t plan on getting married from the start, why did we date for eight years?” She then laments, “Even if I met someone else now, I’d probably be over 40.”
The mood shifts abruptly when Hyun-o declares, “If you want to meet right now, you have to break up right now.” The conversation escalates from a heated discussion to a definitive breakup. Hyun-o, now cold and detached, says, “Goodbye, Joo Eun-ho,” and walks away. Eun-ho, realizing the gravity of the situation, chases after him, clinging to his arm and pleading with him.
Despite her desperate attempts to hold on, Hyun-o firmly pulls away and states, “Whether it’s been eight years or eight weeks, breaking up is the same,” before turning away with a final, resolute goodbye. Eun-ho is left in tears as Hyun-o rejects her pleas, asserting his inability to marry and her disappointment.
The breakup stems from their fundamental differences regarding marriage. The preview, showcasing Shin Hye-sun’s emotional performance and Lee Jin-wook’s portrayal of painful finality, has generated significant anticipation for the series.
Dear Hyeri is set to premiere on Monday, September 23, at 10 p.m.
