Our weekender IT’S BEAUTIFUL NOW is doing OK – which makes sense now that real conflicts and problems have really come out. It is still far less makjang than its predecessor (which had higher ratings) but I am enjoying it far more precisely because it is not employing plot tricks like amnesia.
As for WOORI- what started well fizzled due to poor plot choices by the writer. No wonder that the ratings disappointed.
ALCHEMY OF SOULS is starting well, and one has to hope that it continues that way. Given that this is a Hong Sisters drama one has to be a bit anxious about that. I would note that this is not really a Sageuk Fantasy: The Hong sisters draw inspiration from non-Korean sources and in this case, they seem to be modelling their story on Chinese fantasy dramas and Wuxia martial arts dramas. That is a very rich (if not inexhaustible) source of ideas so perhaps they will deliver a show which is good to the end. The superior cinematography also reflects the Chinese shows- the Chinese often lavish a great deal of expense and attention to that in their costume fantasies.
